I have been looking for a project car for some time now and I finally came across this black 98 GT coupe. I bought it from my bosses brother for $1100 with 160k on the clock. It has minor dings and scratches but not to bad all around. I made the mistake of not checking both strut towers when I bought it, I looked at the driver side and it was mint so I didnt bother looking at the passenger side...which bit me in the A** because it is rusted through.

both my '97 and '98 look the same and when I bought the '98 and brought it home i parked the new one in the garage and the old one outside...my mom walks in the garage, past the new car, and outside because she thought the new one was outside. Didnt even realize she walked past the new one lol.

Here is the car, she is dirty because I was working on the strut when I took these pictures..

So the journey started with repairing the rusted through strut tower. With a good ole' carbide bit and some time, I drilled all the pinch welds out to remove the strut mount. The only reason I decided to do this repair myself, is because I am a qualified welder and am able to weld to code...we frown upon hobby welders doing stuff like this becuase of the lack on knowledge..."ugly but it'll hold"...dose not work here.

    plans for car
Topswap (already have all the parts) and supporting mods (headers etc etc)
Cam swap (thinking vs, but may go with the xp)
    intercooled
Maybe a bottle, not sure yet

Overall goals..high 12's maybe ill settle for low low 13's

Not really into the appearance mod..like the sleeper look actually

Not a bad find, although I would really look over the car good now that you found that spot of rust . I picked up my 97 GT 4dr for 1500 and didn't really look over the rockers good enough and later realized they were both rusted through... But for $1500 for a car that runs and drives and the remainder of the cosmetics look good, I can't complain too too much.

    Good luck on your build

Got the car back on its tires today. Mainly just had to buy a welder so I could weld it back in. Turned out pretty good IMO.
