I am new to this site and recently bought a white 2000 grand prix gtp.. I want to make it look better, more interesting i guess.. im not sure how to do that. I am most definitely getting the windows tinted to 35%. And I was thinking about very dark blue (almost black) fender stripes on it.. I am on a very tight budget so it is hard to find things to improve it. Any ideas of things to make it look better? Oh, also i am going to take the headlights off and clean them up. If you have any ideas for fixing it up could you post pictures of what that would look like?

First, don't be in such a rush to part with your money, especially if you're going to be limited in what you can do. There is plenty of reading to catch up on, sure, suggestions are great, but really, modding a car is all about making it what WE ourselves want from it, not everyone else wanted with their's. So look around, Google and Youtube should be your friend, make a list of what you see that you like, then prioritize what you want first and foremost!

    Then make it your own

Personally, I'd make her solid/sound before I dressed her up, cause if she's not running, she'll just look good in the driveway.

I read here for a few months before I decided what I wanted to do, then read some more, lol.

Congrats and enjoy your new car, GTP's are lots of fun.

Some subtle and inexpensive things you can do are:
    1. Paint your front and rear lower facia's. (The stock grey/charcoal color really doesnt go with anything else on the car) Since you're planning on doing dark blue stripes on your fender, I would look to paint them that color.

    2. Remove all the badges and the sunroof deflector.

    3. Cleaning the headlights are gonna be tough because the lenses on the headlights are glass and the corners are plastic. Its hard to get them to match. New headlights are not too expensive (depending on your budget) 97-03 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX EURO CLEAR HEADLIGHTS SET LEFT+RIGHT ASSEMBLY NEW LH+RH | eBay New headlights make a world of difference. Add clear corners to it and it gets rid of that ugly orange corners that go with nothing on the car.

This is mine. I painted the lower facia black, debadged, black arrow head and new headlights with clear corners.
Total cost: facia bumper paint $7 Bumper Coating Paint | AutoZone.com
black arrow head $21 Arrowhead Replacement Grand Prix
    Headlights $80
    Clear corners $32

Hahahaha, true!!! "BUT" you get the benefit of learning from others mistakes and not repeating them yourself!

Personally im tired of seeing gp's with fender stripes, but that's my opinion, and it doesn't matter. *vent* but yeah, find out the mechanical flaws on the car and fix those first.....im sure you have at least a cpl that u may not be aware of now....but read up and im sure you'll find em....I know I did! There's endless possibilities when it comes to dressing up your car, pfyc.com, wbodystore.com,zzp.com, etc and of course there's always ebay. But stroll through the pages here and look at diff ppls cars to get some ideas. There's alot of good information on here if you know how to use the search button, (its that little magnifying glass icon at the top of the page in front of the red car) ALOT of ppl seem to have a hard time finding it. Lol good luck and nice lookin car btw!

Hm i was hoping fender stripes would give it a more unique appearance, guess not if they are that common. I want to make it look as sporty and unique as possible without going over $400 at the absolute most and without making it look cheap like a bunch of parts just thrown together or like a ghetto car, smh.

And it is mechanically sound with everything working great, at the moment at least! lol, i do have a separate amount of money saved for future repairs so i should be good there.

I took the lights out and cleaned them today... it didnt help much at all though and they still look like crap which is going to drive me crazy, i think i will have to buy new ones

if you have a porter cable orbital buffer you can use a liquid compound to buff the head lights to a nice shine, or if they are bad enough, wet sand them with 2000 grit wet sand paper, and then buff by hand or with a buffer, did my fronts when i buffed my car, should have taken them out to do it but was short on time and just did the face of them real fast but it made a big difference.

this is the best comparison i can show you of my work. the corner has been buffed, the center section has not.

well the absolute first thing you have to do is give it to me. do you know how hard i looked for a clean white coupe? nice pick up there.

i agree with most of the above, and will add that you can snoop around this section for ideas and inspiration.

lowering the car, and new wheels will make the most difference, but that not really budget friendly.

    painting the fascias
    vinyl over/inlays
    cleaning/replacing headlights
painting the headlight capsules black<-- looks so good on white
    tinting tails
    window tint
some vinyl stickers can allow the car to absorb your attitude.
all can be done for cheap

Tint and lower it! Debadge the trunk lid and take a look at these decals for the bumper inserts.

Try this out for your headlights.

If that doesn't work you might want to invest in new ones.

What ever you do to it, its not gonna be enough and its never gonna end. Its an addiction, if you came here then your obviously cursed as well. Don't feel bad, your not alone. If you ever feel like you wanna talk about your "problem" we have a chat box for that......sorry, no coffee and doughnuts though. Lmao
seriously tho, just do what YOU wanna do to it, screw what other ppl say or think, they'll hate on any aspect of it. But they don't have to drive it or pay for it so it doesn't matter. Get ideas from the above resources and go from there. Good luck!

If I could own a coupe this would be the one i'd own. It looks clean. Like all have said in previous posts. Do what make you happy, it's you car. I would debadge and tint. There is a post about safely modding you 3800. You should read it before you start if you haven't read it already. It is a good read. Congrats on the pick up btw.
