Prep is key... Lots of brake cleaner at first to get everything and anything off, lim too... Dig in there, get all the crap out of the little crevices and such. used some micro fibers soaked in brake cleaner n tought spots. Then used one of those silicone bristle disks to "lightly" take off any remaining crap. Don't want to etch anything though, so don't press, I used it in a drill for this even though I have air/die grinders. Especially the top of the SC, like to take all the loose stuff off, you'll see when you go at it.

Final wipe down with brake cleaner then again with acetone. No primer or base, have had great success with Dulicolor High Heat Engine Paint (Ceramic). No clear coat... I can take a pic of my other GTP SC and you'd see the color is still rock solid, no discoloring... I believe clear coat may do that, and I don't want to find out. Prep is really everything. Make sure it is good and clean and paint will stick. The Duplicolor goes on watery, so use very thin coats, no kore than one/two quick light passes over a spot... You'll want to go heavy as it covers nice, but resist the temptation. Light coat will dry to the touch within a few minutes, so its easy to give it a few quick light coats, then medium coat once or twice to finish it off. I think I put 6 good coats on what you see (2/3 light, 2/3 medium) with a minor touch up spray (spot) here and there : )

Ok, so I think I'm finally going to have a week off... Yippee!!! After months of 6-7 day weeks...
:(
lol...
anyways, I have a question on timeline. I need to do a few things now to swap everything and make build complete.
1. Remove engine/tranny from parts car.
2. Remove engine/tranny from good car.
3. Install parts car tranny(built), with engine(built) into good car.
ok, let me know how much time it'll take, garage has no lift and parts car is not at garage, but not far away (5 mins).
Let me know separately (1,2 &3) and collectively.
just trying to guage the time needed.

i'd give yourself 3 days easy. unless you got help. it took me 2 days to r and r a engine, 100% by myself. no help.
Re: My Baby - 2000 Silver Mist GTP :) lots of pics!
The built engine is already together right?

Thanks for the info. Guys...
Lol'd Bill... It would be worth it then to bring a few cases of beer and stop by Bill, take less time then ; ) hahaha
Yes, Red, sorry I didn't say that. Engine is all together waiting install (previous posts this thread). Just a few bolts missing that I'll take from the parts engine while making the transfer. Keeping everything functional too, evap, AC, no EGR though. For the most part, I figured 3 days solid, or 5 with beers included, lol. So I'm not far off then on my guess. For the record, it seems like 7 years... Wanted this together before spring, but ehhh!
I appreciate the info.!
Re: My Baby - 2000 Silver Mist GTP :) lots of pics!
Yea I seriously would give it 3-5 days.. Depend on how in the zone you are and no sense in overworking yourself.. Plus I'm sure you'll want to tidy and clean sh*t as you go along.

but out all im really worried about is the power & drive train for now.
Re: My Baby - 2000 Silver Mist GTP :) lots of pics!

Where did you get the red wires? I like them oddly enough.....
Re: My Baby - 2000 Silver Mist GTP :) lots of pics!
So, after getting sidetracked for a year, yes... I know, but a year... I'm back in track to get this done. Have taken the engine/transmission from the parts car and will begin to assemble things I need. I'm sure I've forgotten a few things as I've not given this the attention it needs... But for now, parts car (take what I need), then clean things up, transmission, etc., then assemble transmission with built engine.
Engine has been sitting a while so I'm thinking I want to get some oil in it, spin it a bit to lubricate everything prior to mating with transmission and installing it? Thoughts are welcome on that...
and hopefully next week, engine/transmission out of my car, it started leaking and I think it's a good time then ; ) anyways, lol...
once engine bay bay is empty I'll clean it up a bit, there's still some axle grease and road grime for sure in there.

Re: My Baby - 2000 Silver Mist GTP :) lots of pics!

I replied... ? Maybe it didn't go through? Have to wait to update this as my iPad suffered a sudden broken screen due to not working fast enough! Lmao.
I will send you a new reply about the car... Sorry the message didn't go through, just another reason tat iPad is now requiring some fixing.
Re: My Baby - 2000 Silver Mist GTP :) lots of pics!
Well I busted the iPad, so it took a few days to get back to updating the thread. Some pics were added in above and I'll post some more as I can. There were lots of bumps along the way, little things, like busting the knock sensor and water temp sensor. Swapping the trans fluid line connectors so I could use the stock lines on the car, one trans had the taper tube connector and the car had the clip in, so swapped them. I Busted the trans selector switch squeezing the engine/trans back in, lucky I had a spare. Other little things like figuring out that a normal pulley puller don't work on the balancer pulley, making a trip to hardware store and getting the rights bolts. In addition, didn't use the stock center bolt as the taper would ruin the first few threads on the crank, so I cut the old crank/pulley bolt down to use as a stud.
http://i1165.photobucket.com/albums/...psnahzcokc.jpg
http://i1165.photobucket.com/albums/...pswqhgu2tk.jpg
Also, had to fashion a wrench to get the extra knock sensor off the other engine without disassembling the the engine/trans. Lol...
http://i1165.photobucket.com/albums/...psnjgd16sw.jpg
Then I realized I didn't have a GenV to stock TB adapter, so just put the N* on. Spectre filter is beat up, so new one is on order. Some of the brake lines were a bit rusted, but I opted to just leave them, will replace them if and when they go... Silly I know but wanted the engine back in. There's a bunch of other little things too, like the Trans Diff speed sensor being different and not noticing until the thing was in, so had to swap that. And the headers, well, I elected to use ARP studs for the heads and the nut/stud combo sit higher, thereby requiring me to notch the headers so they could bolt in. Would've been good to dry fit them prior to install. All in all, the problems were that I had such a time gap from when I started this, to now doing it. Anyways...
