I figured id post up one of these threads, This is my 97 GTP I picked it up for $2400 bucks and its also my first V6 but the blower helps.

When i sold my Camaro I wanted a srt4, cobalt SS or a GTP. the extra 2 cylinders, DIC, and Heads up display where some plus's about these but the Auto trans is a downer. But for the price, I couldnt say no.

Now not knowing much about these cars I bought it with a knock, But with my best Judgment and after looking at it for a good hour i knew the knock wasnt from inside the motor and sure enough it was just the supercharger coupler.

Its got 157k+ miles, a fresh paint job.. it was painted with a good product how ever the job its self wasnt very good. But being white it hides its scars well.

This is when i first bought it.

Now i feel like im almost restoring this car, aswell as my trans am at the same time how ever i love the trans am much more

Having money at the time of buying this car, I got to work quickly. New supercharger coupler from zzp, brand new OEM wheel bearings for both driver and passenger side, New control arm bushings, new tie rod end on the driver side as the passenger had already been replaced, new polly swaybar bushings and new tires.

Performance wise, I got Taylor 8.5mm plug wires, colder plugs, and when i did the lower intake gaskets i ported the blower, and put in Cold air intake.

I then got into ripping the interior out to trace down why my lights wernt working, that i still need to fix but im 99% sure its the BCM and just need to get a new one. But in doing so i cleaned everything, Seats came out, Doorpanels came off. EVERYTHING inside the car was creeking from age, So i got new doorpanel clips to keep everything held up tight and now no more noises. I still have more work too do, but its a massive improvement.

The black stripe started to take to being quick washed and the weather..

So i detailed it, I didnt do my best because its MY car and im one of the few people who will actually see the issues.

    Middle pic..

    And done..

And this is how she sits now.

Now the cars a pretty interesting one, After i ran the vin it was one of the first 100 GTPs made in 97 so one of the first of its kind, And it came with the factory optioned 32mm sway bar up front.

But sadly its 97 and really needs new shocks, and the motor mount is completely gone, It also stopped running properly and was having a hard time driving under load. Lucky for me it ended up being a bad coil pack and was missfiring really bad. 74 missfires in like a part throttle 20ft pull. So new coils are on the way, aswell as the new motor mount.

This week i will be moving the MAF, Opening up the TB, installing the coils, and new motor mount. And if the week goes well for me, I plan to do the u-bend delete aswell. Then its getting tuned and inspected again, then I can get some videos of it up hopefully.

leave the maf and TB alone, you wont gain anything from it and you will prolly mess up the way the computer reads the air flow and how the car runs.

But anyway, I like the car, its looks good.

I wish I had the VIN from my red 97. My parents bought it August of 96 and the door sticker said build date of July 96 I think.

Thanks for all the kind words everyone, Tbh i didnt think much of the car but now that im actually driving it iv gotten alot of complements.

As for a update, i did the motor mount today.. Lets just say iv worked on alot of cars and this has been the nasty's job iv ever done, Cuz of the oil filter location and a mixture of the old motor mount there was a massive buildup of sludge in the motor mount cradle. And doing this by myself it was a pain in the ass to move the motor back and forth to line everything up. But it was well worth it. the idle is much smoother and driving i don't feel the motor falling around.

Pic of old mount and the new one. Coil packs will be here later today so i can knock the missfire out.

I hate my stock hood, I know theres going to be alot of people who disagree but iv tossed around the idea of a "ws6" hood for the car, my biggest issue is that i dont know how i could get the stripe too work. But the stock hood is so heavy, id like to take a few lbs out.

In addition a question too everyone, what have you done for weight reduction?

You dont want to reduce weight over the front axle.

    You'll just reduce traction.

On a serious note: AC delete, aluminum heads, headers, bumper supports (do not recommend), etc

yeah im on the fence about the bumper supports, my camaro had them taken off, but since this is a "daily" it would be bad if it where wrecked..

Most more "extreme" methods make the car unsafe to some degree.

Minus stripping the interior, but then the car will be uncomfortably loud all of the time.
