My husband and I bought this two wks ago for 3,000.00. There‘s a lot of work which needs to be done (performance wise) before we invest the time and money into its exterior.

Be warned. The 97 GT can be a PITA compared to other 97-03 GP's. Good luck with it though.

The only reason the '97 SE/GT are the bastard children is because of the transmission...the factory vacuum powered 4T60E can't handle hardly even the factory output of the 3800...

So my first suggestion to you is to find a 4T65E out of a '98-'02 GT then go have fun with it.

True, but there are more differences that make it the worst combo. Some have a different cowl design that doesn't allow for a regal cabin air filter, they have the coolant-bottle-in-the-way intake, I'm pretty sure the PCM is different, wiring is different... they hate life in general, are bi polar, and they try to harm their owner when you least expect it.

Ok, the last three may just be mine.

PCM is different but people sell tunes for it...it just has a little "chip" you have to transfer over basically.

Cowl design for a cabin filter? You nancy. Breathe the crappy air. Also, '97-'98 and even seen some '99's with the coolant bottle by the air box, I actually like it better there because you don't have the chance of eating through your burb tank with your belts. So, like I said...only thing I'd worry about is the transmission.

I agree, the tranny is by FAR the major issue.

I swapped the coolant bottle very early on to run my FWI, was about 7.50 from pullapart and I just measured where the studs were on my 2000 gt and before you know it boom... 99+ coolant bottle for about 10 bucks. Take care of that trans though...

I still have the original *shell* of my trans in the car. Everything was beefed up when I had it rebuilt.
