did they make it a salvage title or is it clean? because if its clean I cant see why you couldnt make money off of it if you fix it up...of course youd make money off of it either way probably but youd get more if it was clean

Yeah all clean title... It happened almost a year ago so the car was worth even more then, he wouldn't tell me but I'm sure he got a fat insurance check plus he said he put 5k down on the car. My guess from knowing people who got their cars repaired from that **** that he probably got a check for almost 10k or better maybe... The more I think about it the more I want to keep it for myself and ditch a few of my other projects/cars. The wife ain't gonna be happy since I told her I was gonna sell it though...lol
Get rid of the Grand Am, and replace it with the GXP. Total win man! But if I were you I would move. No way in hell would I live in a place where hail gets that big lol.
Hey, if you can find the paint code for that thing...I could look it up at work and find out if it is a tricoat or if the guy is just trying to get some money out of you. The code should be in the trunk on the driveside floor area. It will be to the right of the bc/cc. Pm me the code(should be 4 letters/numbers) and i can check it out
my problem i buy projects like that, and i never want to get rid of them so they sit in my yard... i own a pontiac junkyard lol
I forgot to pull it, I did look through the colors that year and I'm 90% sure it's the "jewel red tintcoat". He wasn't gonna sell me the paint or anything, he was actually warning me so I wasn't surprised when I went to buy the paint. He said its an ugly red basecoat then the "tintcoat" which I guess has a little flake an pearl in it with the tint. That's what his body guy told him. And it's in my gramps garage now since mines full and it can't be outside in the weather til I get the glass in it at least. But I'll for sure have the paint code next weekend.
And whitehead, there's no way I'm letting my wife drive it...lol My wife doesn't know how to turn her head when she drives I think. And I think she aims for potholes as many rims/tires as I have to fix/replace...
hmm i have my 72 lemans wagon, 99 gtp, 98 gt, 91 gp parts car, 73 GA, front clips from 91-93 gp. lol my dad has more crap then me
tricoats ****** blowwww to paint fyi lol, you could pick a color close to that and leave the jambs if you plan on keeping the car?
I'm not 100% on keeping it, but I'm sure once it looks even halfway like a real car again I will want to...lol
I was trying to be positive bout the tricoat by thinking it would give me more opportunities to wetsand, but I have been thinking hard on getting a "close enough color" cause 99% of people wouldn't be able to tell the difference anyway...
getting a close enough in base/clear would be more ideal.
tricoats are alot of material built up the original finish, if you mess it up it will look like pooo. so say oem finish is 6mil thick, you add primer then tri coat your looking at 13+ mils the thicker the mil the more prone to chiping and flaking. just a heads up
Nice Kevin looks like you got your work cut out for you! If you need any help with the parts let me know I found a few of those cars in decent condition.
Also looking at the plates and seeing that its from Oklahoma this is exactly why a ton of people have covered driveways or car ports in Oklahoma. I live in Oklahoma for a while doing a military school and couldnt figure out why in the hell so many covered drive ways........ That car is why!!!
Thats a good point... I never really thought about the thickness of the paint. I'll talk to them at the paintshop when I go to buy all my supplies and see if they can't some up with a close base/clear...
Yes yes! Had my wife mail your BBV and map bracket Thursday or Friday you should get it tomorrow hopefully. We got one really nice yard that carries only 96+ gm's and from the locator thing they have most of my parts but I know the way that interior was taken out and all that I'm gonna probably have to track down a bunch of small pieces or big maybe I haven't really had time to inventory any of it cept the main things. I will let ya know though... and let me know if that BBV solves your issues man.
tricoats arent that bad to paint....just be sure to do a let down panel first with about 5 layers on the spray out card.......make sure to tape it off so u can see what each layer of pearl does and it will show u how many coats of pearl ur gonna need before u start blending out the paint....when u find that out u can start spraying on the car itself.....u will have to blend the base coat out first and then start with the pearl....but asfar as i seen on that car i think ur gonna have to re base the whole car so it will be that much easier.....if u were from my area u would help ya spray it
That looks more like some man angered some woman and she took a hammer to it. Kind of the condition of my sister's boyfriend's Cadillac LOL
