Found this one on craigslist and couldn't pass it up. A 92' grand prix gtp. It's not something that you see everyday, not to mention that the car's body and interior were in pretty good shape considering the age. Just about to turn 120,000 miles. And for those of you who are dying to know if it has the getrag 284 5 speed..... well duh lol. Now your probably wondering what i paid for the car? How does $450 sound?
Now let's get down to business. I believe the precious getrag may be ****ed because there was no fluid in the trans when i checked it. The service manual claims that the trans holds just over 2 quarts of fluid. I put 2 quarts of fluid in, which just brought it up to the full mark. I started the car and it makes a nasty noise when the clutch is engaged (pedal all the way out). When you disengage the clutch (pedal to the floor), the noise stops. Sounds kinda like metal on metal, bearings maybe? Its got me thinking that the trans is toast...ouch! The clutch works fine and all the gears are there. I drove it down the road and back. Drives fine, but just makes that nasty noise until you get above 30mph, then the noise goes away. It comes back as you get below 30.
The previous owner had for a few years and never drove it. When he bought the car, it was stuck in 3rd gear because on of the linkage cable popped off. He got that issue fixed. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with the noise? He was going have the trans rebuilt but never got around to it. Check out the video. Feedback and opinions would be greatly appreciated!
