I'll have to check the EFR's out. I'm on the 20T kick because it will fit in the stock location without modification and I'll see 400hp+ and 500ft/lbs+ (crank) but hit full boost and power around 2800-3000. I will admit though, it is a lot of fun to play with turbo's.

Watchout...Bill will play with your name too if you stick around too long

I picked up an OEM wingless trunk from an 05 2.5RS and threw it on last night. I kept my STi trunk and spoiler so I'll probably swap between them depending on how I feel or what I'm doing. Initial impressions are that the STi spoiler does have a noticeable effect on the way the car feels, especially above 45-50 mph. I'm not saying the car is unstable or uncontrollable, but it is definitely different.

I have quick phone picture from I snapped walking in to work this morning:

Not sure how I feel about it. I like how low key it looks but I feel like it needs something else. in the rear now. Maybe a rear diffuser or something.

I thought about that, I think they look sort of weird on the 04/05's though. It's definitely an option.

I'm going to pick up a rear diffuser over the winter. I'm torn between the mature, APR and boosted beauties.

So I went up to Buffalo for the 93 octane tune. However, we were not able to complete the tune. The car is now running fully in MAF mode instead of SD off the stock IAT sensor in the MAF (only for break-in). The stumble between 2000-3000 RPM is still present and didn't change a bit between the two modes. Timing is still low because the car would knock (detonate, not rod knock) any time timing was added back into the tune.

We're pretty sure it's the cams, and I've heard/read some things on Crower cams since installing them that reinforces that they could be the problem. Unfortunately that means the engine has to come back out.

With all that said, I told Mike to run it in boost even though it was knocking and see if that helps us figure anything out. It made 351whp on a pull that started at about 16.4psi and crept to 17.8, but again, it was knocking and the ecu was pulling timing. Even with timing much lower than where Mike would expect to be able to be, it's still making power. Our target was going to be 23-24 psi on 93 (26-27 on E85).

Obviously I don't want to run it while knocking and beating up the engine so we went back to a low timing/wastegate pressure/rev limited map. It definitely wants to make power, I just need to get those cams out. We're just going to put the stock cams back in, on my current turbo I don't really need bigger cams and I won't lose any real power.

You will probably be much happier with stock cams and give a nice beefy under the curve power range

What's up guys? Another long while without updates. Let's see how short I can make this..

I parked the STi for the winter a week or so after my last update. I was losing coolant externally without knowing it, I later discovered a few small leaks that all added up.

Since it was parked, I decided It was as good a time as any to pull the engine out and get going on the cam swap. Since the heads were already going to the machine shop for the stuff associated with the cam swap (resetting the spring installed height, etc) I decided to have the heads pressure tested to make sure I wasn't losing any coolant internally. There weren't any signs of burning it, but I wanted to be sure. They came back with a clean bill of health and with my original OE cams installed. Moore Performance reinstalled them to the shortblock and swapped out the buckets that needed to be changed to correct the valve lash, which changes once the heads are torqued to the block. They also installed a higher volume oil pump as pressures were a little low last year, even with 15w-50 Motul 300V.

I started talking with Moore Performance about what I really wanted to do with the car, and we decided to make some changes while the motor was out. I switched out the stock location turbo and the single scroll equal length header for a rotated/twinscroll Borg Warner S200SX-E 7076 turbo and a Moore Performance twinscroll kit. They made the header, uppipe, downpipe, intake/inlet, hot side IC piping, and a few other parts. I made some changes to the fuel system and a few other things.

I finally got it all back together and on the road last week, and I have a full day of tuning scheduled for this Friday (6/24). I am working with a different tuner now, the tuner in Buffalo got hired on by Cobb Tuning part-time last year, and went full-time/relocated to TX this spring.

So far, the stumble/hesitation issue I was having last year seems to be gone. We won't know for sure until it's tuned because it's running on a Speed Density base map right now, which is inherently rough. I've done about 100 miles in the car on the new setup so far and it seems like the changes are definitely going to be worth it.

I also sold the 17x8.5" +40 RPF1's and picked up a set of WedsSport TC105N's in 17x9 +35. They're lighter than the RPF1's even though they're half an inch wider. I'm pretty happy with how they look on the car.

I made it to a our local Subaru club's meet yesterday so I grabbed some pictures. Direct sunlight is terrible to shoot in, but here's what I could salvage.

The guy walking on the passenger side of the car in the hat is my dad. He has a SAtin White Pearl 2014 WRX hatch, and had a Saabaru before that:

The Java Black Pearl STi next to mine belongs to my buddy who won Best 04/05 at Wicked Big Meet last year and this year. I told him I'm going for the title next year:

My friends "tagged" my car. They've been hiding dickbutt stickers on all of our cars and seeing how long it takes the owner to notice. I got tagged and noticed the same day, but a few people have gone weeks without noticing.

I'm pretty happy with the wheels, seeing them on the car out in the sun:

The car could be lower and I'd have plenty of clearance since I shaved the lips of the rear quarter panels flush. I'll revisit the ride height when I swap the coilovers next year (Thinking something more performance oriented, mine are great for a DD but that's not what this car is).

    And the engine bay shots:

And some phone pictures of everything coming together (I had to replace the blue intake coupler, it was driving me crazy):

Turbo mounted with engine out, before I clocked the compressor housing.

I picked up a 2010 Honda Fit Sport 5MT as a DD in December 2015, and it's proven to be quite the capable parts hauler:

So far all I've done to it is had the windows tinted and picked up steelies and snow tires. It's a great little car, and with the manual trans it's pretty fun to toss around.

Looking good man! Let us see that dyno when everything is done!

And I know a few guys who have gone the Honda Fit route for DD, they turn out to be stupid reliable and good at hauling everything.

The tune went really well, made 429whp/377wtq on 93 octane at 24psi, hitting target boost at 4100 RPM on a 1.22 AR hotside. The area under the curve is incredible and the way the torque and power come on and hold on impressed us all. The power is very linear and the car doesn't drive like a "big turbo" car, it just pulls. In all honesty it doesn't feel that fast, but if I get on it at 30 and expect to be going 50, I'm actually going 70.

Keith at Pure Tuning in Toledo is great, and the Moore Performance Parts twinscroll setup is awesome with the power and response it allows. The car wanted more but I wanted a relatively "safe" tune. We saw a 19whp increase when going from 24psi to 25 psi but we dialed it back for now.

Keith said torque will jump even more at higher boost as well, providing a more square set of numbers, which is what I was hoping for. Still, at 377ft-lbs it doesn't feel sluggish or laggy. With race gas or Cobb flexfuel (we'll see about that one) it'll break the 500/500 mark easily. That can wait until I start to get tired of this setup and want more.

I want to give a huge shoutout to my family, friends, Moore performance, and everyone else who had a hand in this build. It's been a long and rocky road to get here but it's finally paying off. I'm excited to finally be able to enjoy the car again.

Here's a video of one of the pulls, I don't think this was a 24psi pull:

I took the car out and just cruised around over the weekend since the weather was clear, although it was hot and humid. Snagged a few pictures throughout the Cleveland Metroparks and in the Cuyahoga River Valley while I was out:
