That is correct. The rear housing is diff between a 2wd and 4wd to accommodate the transfercase
But IIRC it's more in depth than simply swapping the housing. I think the tail shaft also has to be changed which requires some dissasembly.
And upon further research I guess the entire trans has to be disassembled. I might as well sell both trannies to fund a T56 at this point
that blows, back in the day the tail shaft its self came right out, and then swap the housing and the shaft.
that stuff will sell tho. and then you can put what you want as a tranny in there, the fun stick. lol![]()
T56.
You wouldn't wanna stick an auto in there just to tear it out in a few months and put in a T56..
Actually you would if its a turbo drag car. 4l80 and call it a day.
It's not going to be a drag car. Just a fun car that will haul some ass for the occasional time ill take it to the track
Might've found me an LS1 kmember. A guy I know ripped the motor/trans out of a T/A to put in his 57 Chevy. The kmember is layin around somewhere he thinks. We're gonna look for it. If we find it, it's mine.
Of the V6 rearend assploding? The T/A rearend is still in it. But I guess it's not the original and it's not that good....sad face. Might ask him if I can have it anyway just so I can have the rear disks. I can always rebuild the diff.
I also want to rob the ttop stuff off of it to put in mine.
Found me a T56 crossmember...guy has to pull it off and ill be pickin it up next week.
And I guess the T/A was an LT1 car and not an LS1 car. Sad face. But oh well I already have a lead on an LS1 kmember
Well. LS swap project is officially scrapped. Too much hassle. It'd be much easier to buy a factory LS car. Motor is sold. Trans is probably sold too.
