Re: The Purple Car. Turned into a GXP and then a clean Regal
Solid update! That's one clean GS, holy ****. Glad to see you're still rockin a 3800. That was GXP was pimp as hell too.
I was sanding down the GPO's I bought from you like 2 years ago. Finally getting ready to install those. As I was sanding I was wondering if you were still around / still in the Grand Prix game, lol.
Re: The Purple Car. Turned into a GXP and then a clean Regal
The GXP was fun for sure but I wish it would've been nicer. I probably would've kept it. The Regal is waaay nicer.
Going to put the stock box back in relatively soon. Looking at this thing it appears to actually flow pretty good. It's 3.5" all the way through. That should be plenty enough for a car at this power level. Just going to run a K&N drop in and call it a day. Maybe one day if I get ambitious enough I might put a hole in the side of the box and put a tube on it to pull air out of the fender if I can make it look nice enough. But I don't think it's really necessary, a 3.5" hole all the way through is adequate if you ask me
Re: The Purple Car. Turned into a GXP and then a clean Regal
Got the stock box put in. I definitely like it better. So much quieter but I do wish the blower whine was just a tad louder. It is nice to not have the sucking noise though. Intake temps are marginally higher. FWI temps at 65-70mph were 2-5* over ambient. Stock box with K&N drop in is 6-8* over ambient. Difference is very small and not enough to matter IMO. I did notice the temps were higher with the FWI at lower speeds. I saw as high as 25* over ambient yesterday with the FWI at speed around 25-30mph. I never saw above 15* with the stock intake today. I feel like the metal tube of the FWI would really get hot in the summer when underhood temps are high. Seems to me the rubber/plastic box would do a better job of keeping temps down but I could be wrong. I'm also sure pulling the headlight out at the strip would bring temps back down to the same as the FWI or maybe even cooler than the FWI with the air having a straight shot right in the box. The last thing I'd like to touch on is the stock box is 3.5" all the way through. The FWI is 4". I don't see half an inch making any difference in power on a car at this level, I'd be surprised if the car made more than 225whp.
Bay needs cleaned just a bit. Anybody know a good way of getting rid of the white chalk look on the rad hoses? Both of the new ones look like that
Pic of course, nothing much to see. Next thing I'd like to do is trim a heatshield to fit on the plog to make that more stockish looking

Re: The Purple Car. Turned into a GXP and then a clean Regal
Did new plugs yesterday, car has been developing a miss for a while. Only did it in pretty heavy throttle, 10+lbs . Found 2 cracked plugs. These are stock temp Delco iridiums. Not sure why they cracked. I have a very hard time believing it's something I did considering the engine wasn't in the car when I put them in, so zero issues putting them in. Only about 9K on them. Number 2 and 4. Oh well I guess. New plugs are NGK TR6IX's. A little colder
Number 2

Re: The Purple Car. Turned into a GXP and then a clean Regal
**** happens sometimes. I know ceramics and sometimes inconsistent heat cycles can exploit weaknesses in the ceramic.
For example if the thickness varies slightly it can cause cracking due to a inconsistent expantion and contraction of the material. Where the thicker ceramic meets the thinner it will crack at that union.
In short you probably got a few defective plugs lol.

Re: The Purple Car. Turned into a GXP and then a clean Regal
Seems to me there should be some better quality control. 33% of the plugs that came out of this engine were cracked at only 9K miles. And they're half ass expensive plugs too at 5 bucks a pop. Who knows what I'd find if I ran them to 50K. I bet there'd be a couple more. It'll be the last time I buy Delco plugs. That's for sure. Course Delco probably makes the NGK's or vise versa. Who really even knows lol
Re: The Purple Car. Turned into a GXP and then a clean Regal
are you using a proper plug socket with a foam insert?
Re: The Purple Car. Turned into a GXP and then a clean Regal
It has a rubber insert. But like I said when I put those plugs in the engine wasn't even in the car so there was no fuss at all
Re: The Purple Car. Turned into a GXP and then a clean Regal
were the exhaust manifolds in place as well? or did they go on after it went in the car?
Re: The Purple Car. Turned into a GXP and then a clean Regal
The rear manifold never came off. Both plugs that were cracked came off the rear bank
Re: The Purple Car. Turned into a GXP and then a clean Regal
Got some meth stuff. Devilsown had a 40% off deal on their website for PRI. I bought a pump, bigger DO7 nozzle compared to the DO3 I have, nozzle holder, and a couple small things. Scotty will hate me for this but I got a simple on/off switch that will probably be set at 5psi. Not doing a progressive controller. I don't want to spend a ton of money doing this on a car that'll be lucky to make 250whp. Not sure if I want to mount a separate tank and run actual 50/50 meth or just run washer fluid yet. I have some time to decide beings I still need to get HPT still.

Re: The Purple Car. Turned into a GXP and then a clean Regal
id suggest spraying just water, but being its winter you dont want the water to freeze and crack anything, like the pump. i say plumb and wire it up so your ready to go when your ready to go.
Re: The Purple Car. Turned into a GXP and then a clean Regal
blue fluid is alot easier to run, little bit of extra fuel added but alot more water cooling.

Re: The Purple Car. Turned into a GXP and then a clean Regal
FWIW those are buick lucerne super wheels. I had a set of the graphite ones. They look sweet on a regal, and that regal of yours already looks spectacular.
Re: The Purple Car. Turned into a GXP and then a clean Regal
Yea any sort of added fuel will require tuning. I’d be okay with straight water to get the most cooling but like you said Scotty it’ll freeze. Right now I’m thinking using -20 fluid out of the stock bottle. That stuff is already dirt cheap and I can get it even cheaper through work
Thanks Bill. I think the wheels will clean up half ass decent if I took some steel wool to them but I think they might look good color matched to the grey too. Shouldn’t be any issue running a 245/45/18 on this car should it? Every once in awhile I see someone that has issues with 18’s and tires rubbing the spring perch on the struts
Re: The Purple Car. Turned into a GXP and then a clean Regal
bills got a soft spot for your car, he used to own a white one too lol.
-20 washer fluid is still like 25% meth. its what keeps the washer fluid from freezing. so still very rich without the maf being tuned. i ran that stuff for about a year.

like I said. ZIIIIIIIIIIIIIIP.
Re: The Purple Car. Turned into a GXP and then a clean Regal
I had no issues and ran that same size. Could show you pics if photobucket hadn't tanked
Re: The Purple Car. Turned into a GXP and then a clean Regal
Should have mentioned I was lowered an inch.
Does it have the auto dimming side mirrors?
