Well, it's actually for my wife. Long story short, she wanted a "fast car" that got good mileage. I said that doesn't exist. Then I did some thinking... The SC W-bodies actually get pretty decent highway mileage. So I hop on marketplace and find this gem. An '01 Regal GS with 53k on the odo. 53K!! $3500 obo he's asking. Let me see what I can get this thing for...

Go to look at it. Absolute cream puff. Everything works. Cup holder isn't even broke. Has a P0300 code. I'm hoping that's just an issue from it sitting for 5 months. I'll write a tune to get it through emissions then sort it all out. All I see it really needs is a good cleaning.

Out with the minivan, in with the Regal!

Hmmm. I guess I didn't even notice. Maybe that's okay though. Mama want's a banging system for her road trips. Which means an aftermarket head unit. No steering wheel controls means one less thing to worry about!

Looks really sweet! $3500 is a great price, that what i paid for my 00 GP with 45k, but unfortunately mine's a N/A model. My uncle had one with that same color combo i think, maybe the interior was different color i don't remember. His was a N/A 99 model. I'd buy that regal any day of the week! Nice Find!!!!

Thanks! Oh, sorry. I forgot to wrap up the first post. Little too excited I guess. $3500 is what he was asking. I paid $2600.

Of course! Nothing crazy though. A tune, shift kit, trans cooler, CAI, headers and drop pulleys till just before it knocks. All in due time though.

Wait, I thought there weren't any W bodies worth over a thousand. I start back on GT life today, broke the trans in the GTP.

    Congrats on the score.
All Grand Prix, all the time. 69 Model J, 99 GT & GTP coupes. All junk, haha.

I don't know man. I think this thing is worth every dollar I paid for it. The more I mess with it, the more I appreciate it.

    Congrats on the score.
    Thank you!

Well, I believe I have the P0300 diagnosed. HP tuners scanner shows misfires on #3 and #6. Play musical coils and it stays at #3 and #6. Looks like I'm making a trip to the junkyard this weekend for an ICM.

I paid more than you did for each one I have had. Nobody caves that bad on price here. Hope the girl gets much satisfactory and uneventful years of service from the Regal.

As I read the title I thought... Regal. Nice score on the monocolor GS. Not too many of them out there.

Since it's so pristine, I doubt you'll have many worries with it. You going to do the 4th clutch hub while the trans kit goes in... would give you the VB in had to put in the upgrades.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Thank you! I believe he screwed up when he told me he was moving out of state. That combined with the fact that it was unregistered led me to believe he needed to dump it quickly. Shrewd negotiations!

Thanks! I figured I'd get your attention. Yeah, I really like the single color paint scheme. Kinda understated. That's more my style.

Shoot. I don't know. Probably just do the shift kit and lube tube retainer for now. Time permitting, I'd like to build a spare. I still have all the tools and I plan to push this setup a little.

i like the solid color too, being mine was all black. and they all tend to have the silver lower trim no matter what color they were.

That lower trim being the other color was a dead giveaway from a distance that it was a GS.

Well, now that (I think) we have the misfire issue fixed, it's on to the next step. Getting this thing through emissions. I'm going to make some calibration changes to the PCM, toss a new gas cap on it and hope for the best!

Full disclosure, I'll change it back to a stock tune once I pass. I just don't feel like going through the drive cycle BS on a temp tag. I can't even transfer the title until I get a level 1 inspection. The emissions test covers that.

Did that with my white one. Had about 30 minutes to get an inspection/emissions before a load of W body folks were showing up for a get together. Set your emissions stuff to no report and it'll go right through

Flashed a tune. All systems go for emissions. New gas cap in hand.

Think I might just wait a couple weeks because, well... You know.
