Re: 04 gp gt, it's got weird factory wiring...
Horn is turning into a major re-wire to fix... So much confusion. Lol
The FSMs I've got are a great resource, just because of the extra little bits of info and wiring diagrams for everything.
Oh, and if anyone's dug into their underhood fuse block and re-pinned or even just taken pictures, that would be a great help, because mine seems to be wired 7 ways to Sunday and makes zero sense. Lol
Re: 04 gp gt, it's got weird factory wiring...
Got the rear seat clean and re-installed.

Don't mind the mess, I didn't feel like cleaning anymore...
I used a mix of water, Armor-All cleaner, vinegar, and some laundry stain remover in a spray bottle. Sprayed down the seats, scrubbed them with a stiff bristled brush until the seats started foaming and the foam changed from white to brown, then used a microfiber towel (or three) to wipe them down and soak up most of the liquid. Then I used a shop-vac to suck the rest of the wet out and let them dry.
I'm honestly quite impressed with how nice these seats look now, considering they still look like cheap base model seats. lol
Oh, and I got the relay for the horn to click every time i barely brush the steering wheel with a feather... Probably the original reason it was disabled in the first place.... ugh. Anyone have an idea of how to keep the airbag assembly from touching the steering wheel frame until actual firm force is applied? Somewhere along this car's life someone bent out the retaining wire that clips into the pins that go through the steering wheel frame, so one side of the airbag is forever detached...

Re: 04 gp gt, it's got weird factory wiring...
Replaced rear sway end links with the thick MOOG ones, and then I saw how much rust the stock bar had. Pulled it out, cleaned off the rust, sprayed it with some rustoleum, cleaned and painted the rusty bushing brackets, replaced the bushings with MOOG problem solvers, and even cleaned the exhaust tips...again. lol
And rotated the tires.
Re: 04 gp gt, it's got weird factory wiring...
I was mildly surprised that I could notice the difference in cornering. It's not much, but it's there.
Had another nice surprise during the test drive, but that's for another thread.
Re: 04 gp gt, BEEP BEEP I'm a sheep.
Fixed the horn.
Here's how it all went down...
First off, the wires were dead. blackened copper throughout. So I had to cut them back until I got to good copper.

Nope.

Not yet...

WOO!!!

Until I realize how close I am to the fuse block. And you can see how far I had to dig into the harness.
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h6...pslvf7u642.jpg
More harness carnage.
Now, trying to understand the fuse block and how it's wired is impossible without diagrams. Thankfully, the FSMs I have, have those wiring diagrams. It lists C3, A2 as the connection point for the horn control wire. It wasn't until I pulled the fuse block completely apart that I found what I was looking for...
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h6...psdpbfg1iw.jpg
These are the three sections, or connection blocks, for the main harnesses. I have figured out that C3 is the top one, not the bottom as I previously thought, and each block has a grid system as well.
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h6...psex9pab2j.jpg
A-F, and 1-12. So my horn wire is supposed to connect to A2 of C3. It was pinned to A3 of C3. That right there is why this car has never had a working horn in the first place... One wire out of place. Anyways...
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h6...psioymypdu.jpg
They connect to these, and go out to the rest of the car. They are split up between sections of the car: top-most is the power distribution block, for all the big ass 40A and 50A fuses. Next is C3, for the front end of the car. C2, for the interior/ rear end of the car, and C1 for the engine bay. It does make sense, I guess...
Anyways, here's how my impatient splicing goes.
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h6...pszyqylu2c.jpg
Re-loomed it all, plug the connectors back in, and I go to tighten the negative terminal and it's still loose as balls. lol I guess there's always something.
But, now I can press the lock button twice and...

Re: 04 gp gt, BEEP BEEP I'm a sheep.
Well, got a charging system failure this morning... Looks like I'm gonna have to replace those battery terminals sooner than I thought. dumb squishy lead sh1t.
Re: 04 gp gt, BEEP BEEP I'm a sheep.
Re: 04 gp gt, BEEP BEEP I'm a sheep.
Yup. I lost the subframe retainer and bolt on the driver's side, almost lost the passenger side as well...
The other one was nearly completely backed out, I had at least 5 turns on it before it became finger tight.
Thank God for a 3 foot long 1/2" drive breaker bar... Güten-tight on the passenger side, but no idea where the driver's side went. Lol
Looks like I'm heading to the JY with that breaker bar, gonna get me at least 8 more for the next time this happens.
Strange part is...I used an air impact to run those bolts back in after doing the front sway. Guess what I'm not using again. Lol
Re: 04 gp gt, BEEP BEEP I'm a sheep.
Got everything to fix it from a JY, the lady behind the counter just said "thanks for stopping by" and shoo-ed me out when I tried to pay. I think they're starting to recognize me, don't know if that's good or bad.
But I have no fear while driving it now, so that's good.
Or bad.
Haven't decided yet.

Walk in with a dozen of donuts or bagels and ensure the zero totals keep coming...

If I only need tiny, small parts for the rest of the time I own this car........ That might work. lol
Re: 04 gp gt, BEEP BEEP I'm a sheep.
Just tell them all things are tiny from a large enough perspective. Walk off with their minds blown.

Re: 04 gp gt, BEEP BEEP I'm a sheep.
Well, JY luck is a fickle thing.
About 2 years ago I found a set of brand new battery terminals in a glove box in that same JY, I was just gonna hand them to the owner because at the time I didn't need them. They didn't care, they weren't ever gonna use them and didn't feel like selling them. So I had tossed them into a toolbox and forgot about them until I needed to fix mine. So I tossed them on and called it a day...
6 months later, we come to today, where the negative terminal has officially become too large to tighten down onto the negative post of the battery. The red and black paint is holding up beautifully, though...
I'm just upset that I'm practically broke until Friday, and the wife's car now has a screw stuck in the driver's side front tire...on 19" wheels.
I really hope that screw is short.
Re: 04 gp gt, BEEP BEEP I'm a sheep.
I fixed the battery terminals again... Put zinc terminals on, but these have wingnuts so I don't need to pull the entire terminal off the post just to disconnect the negative for working on the car. :D
I did need to pound the positive terminal onto the post, and I had to bend the negative terminal so it would actually clamp onto the negative post, but it looks just about the same as before, just with more shiny and more red goop all over. Lol

It's not the end result I was wanting, but it's much better than before. And that battery there? I have no idea why, but that thing has been through some abuse, and it just keeps on going. It's been frozen twice, it's been left dead for 6 months, it's had so many heavy things dropped on it... Most dependable battery I have ever seen, and we use Optima yellow tops at work. Lol
But it's not a side post, and it has different sized posts, and it looks like poo. If it does ever die, I'll swap it out, but I don't see that happening any time soon.
I've got some ideas for upgrading the entire electrical system later, but that'll happen after I get everything else fixed up proper.
Re: 04 gp gt, BEEP BEEP I'm a sheep.
600cca what a ***** battery
