So first, please don't flame me to badly here. I have a 2000 GTP and it has like 140,000 miles on it. I use it for bump and run dirt track racing. I know some people may be crying right now about it, sorry. I have a few questions but I am going to try and search out the answers first

Welcome to the site. If you can't find what you are looking for via search then post it up. I'm sure we can answer whatever you may have to ask. Never seen a dirt car GP before. Post some pics of it. Use Photobucket or the like and insert the image.

There are a few pics. Bump and run racing is half racing, 1/4 keeping your car running or tires on it and the last 1/4 is demo derby. Fun stuff for sure.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys. I searched for a few minutes and couldn't quite find what I was looking for so let me ask a few questions. So when I start it up it has a rough idle and at low speed it bogs pretty badly, thinking MAF. I unhooked it and plugged it back in seems to run better then started doing the same thing again. What would cause the MAF to go bad? What if the sensor is fine what would be causing the problem? Has a KN af and can hear it sucking air so I don't think its an issue with airflow at least at the filter. Second I know these years GM's are notorious for there superior or rather complete garbage upper/lower intake gaskets. This car is no different, how hard is it to replace?? Watched a few youtube videos and it seems fairly straight forward. Last question for today, bought the car guy said it had a tune on the computer, smaller pulley on the supercharger and it had a 3" downtime and the cat was not there. I chopped the exhaust off about a foot back from where it curves back under the car. Yes it is loud as hell which is cool but do you think this could be causing some of my issues with such little back pressure? Maybe Ill start a thread incase anyone else is interested. I figured the supercharged motor should make it a beast, and this style racing is fun and you can get a lot of runs out of a well built car. I am only 700$ in so far, tires, car and the other stuff to get it to race ready. So if you want to know more about it let me know.

The oils from the k&N could have killed the MAF sensor but otherwise they are known to go bad all the time. If it ran better with it unplugged it either should be cleaned with MAF cleaner or get a replacement.

Back pressure is nothing to worry about, it has no effect on these engines. I would be concerned with the smaller supercharger pulley on there though because you don't know how goood that said tune is. Just run the highest grade fuel you can, you should be running 91+ anyway to not blow it up.

Intake gaskets are easy for me ateast, but overall it's not a very hard job. Just take your time is the key for a first timer.

maf's just go bad, that k n filter and its oil can f up a maf too, try cleaning it with some maf cleaner only.

the check engine light on? if so scan it, the code is the key to whats wrong.

it could also need a tune up real bad too. toss some cheap ass copper core al 104's in it and gap em to 0.50 and see how that goes, cheap parts store brand plug wires are fine too.

lim job is cake really. once the wire harness and fuel rail is off its just your normal engine with parts bolted on. theres a ton of new lim job threads on here too, like from this week. lots of q and a with parts lists.

Thanks for the info guys. I had originally planned on junking it after a few races but decided that I am going to make it a dooms day machine for next year. Makes total sense tp run 91 octane in it, don't know why I didn't think of that. Running 87 right now so I will have to siphon that fuel out, super easy though since its a 3 gallon boat gas tank with the stock sending unit in it. So once I get the upper and lower gaskets changed along with a tune up and clean/replace the MAF. You guys have any other suggestions to spice this car up. Mostly runs in 1st and 2nd gear. Also do you guys have any idea how to adjust the toe on the front tires? Need to toe mine out slightly. Searched around and didn't come up with much.

on the tie rods is a lock nut, break it free and turn the inner rod. turn it one way it pushes the wheel out, the other it pulls it in. each front wheel needs to be done, unless you took a hit on one side lol im sure thats the back story, a hit. bump and run says it all lol

if you got race gas at your track, run 102. that will pep it up good.

some sunocos sell 100 at the pumps, here its 10 bucks a gallon tho.

or you could swap to e85 and drop to a much smaller pulley, just need larger injectors and a tune for it.

You would adjust the tie rod ends to get a different toe on the front tires.

I couldnt tell you exactly what way you'd have to turn the inner tie rod to get the adjustment you want though. I work as a mechanic and our alignment machine is my guide for correct adjustments. I've done a custom alignment before with provided specs but again I use our equipment to get the correct numbers.

to bad your racing in a what looks like a full circle. but does look like fun, good way to let some aggression fly thats for sure. like that green car you turned around, have some pay back for the last time round lol

its got to be kinda hard to pit a fwd car unless its pushed around, that maybe your shinning jem. as your car pulls its self. you did get pushed out of your lane tho good. lol like i said looks like fun.

Yeah the track in the video was closer a circle than the first race i went to, that race was a pretty decent oval with a nasty nasty corner.Had a huge firm that was like a bottle neck and people were getting destroyed going into that corner. I bet at least 10 cars flipped in that race between all the heats. I almost flipped in that one see the video here https://www.facebook.com/gabe.bosman...56244731767599

The tracks are always dirt and sometimes extremely muddy. My thought is by toeing the tires out slightly i will get a much better bite while turning.I know there is no way to adjust the camber. Run emergency spares on the back since they are harder to pop due to the funky offset on those rims they are pretty well tucked into the body and harder to hit, plus they slide around fairly well in the mud.

maybe get a pair of bfg all terrain tires on the front. i ran them on my trucks for 10 years, best damn tire for snow and mud. they are a very soft compound so they grip damn good, but will wear fast if your spinning them to the point of smoking them.
