i have a 99 gtp want to put on a 3.5 pulley but i was worried about kr . can you hear kr like on an 78 350 chevy w/ the timing advanced too much. did this many times and never chipped a piston. if i get a ubend delete and 3'' downpipe 93 octane can i run the 3.5 pulley safely? also if i did what kind of 0-60 and 1/4 time should i expect

By the time you hear it it's too late. 78 Chevy will knock like a coffee can full of pennies and still keep going.

Of course you can hear the Knock of piston fragments as they make a Reduction of themselves. Ha? Sounded funnier in my head....most things should probably stay there

You can't hear it. Having had 15 degrees of KR.. I can tell you you can't hear KR.

Plus in the technical sense.. KR is the timing reduction not the actual knock itself..but we know what you are getting at.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Curious what makes pre detonation so mute in these cars? My Sienna I can hear it clear as day when I have 87 in, almost every time I hit the throttle. But, yeah, can't hear a thing in the Imp.

If you know what to listen for, you can hear knock. That's how we used to tune timing curves before computers came into the picture. And since I know what I'm listening for, I can hear knock on just about every modern engine too.

And bandook, if you can hear it then you should be using a higher octane fuel. Just because your engine hasn't blown up yet doesn't mean that you aren't contributing to the long-term damage of your car (i.e. blown head gasket etc.).

You can't hear knock "retard" because that is a computer function to adjust the timing, after the knock sensor hears knock.

Sometimes when I get into the throttle I get a rhythmic tinging, rattling that I've been curious about. I can only hear it if I'm driving by a fence or building that can reflect the noise from my car into my windows. I thought it may be the catalytic converter heat shield but it seems too rhythmic for that. Any thoughts? It's a N/A 3800 series III

It has only began pinging because of the heat we've had. I go back and forth 87-89 because its a work van. Besides, how many Toyota engines do you hear about that failed because of pre-d? I only ran 87 on my last sienna and its around 250k and still only had minor maintenance done (neighbor owns it now).

My guess is Toyota used something stronger than a marshmallow for pistons, unlike GM?
