    Hello all,
My name is Darille and I am a freelance service tech, ( I run a below standard shop rates garage for people in need of repairs but can't afford shop or dealership rates). Basically I am an honest low cost alternative to regular shops and dealerships. Anyway I have a customer (college age kid from waaaay out of town) with a 2001 Grand Prix. 140k miles. It has a runability issue. Can someone please refer me to a search option here in the forum or the correct place to post my question. Thank you in advance for any and all help.

Search is at the top of the screen hidden in the black...look for the magnifying glass.

search is hidden at the top of the page, its black on black, a bit hard to see.

you can post your question here if you like.

if its random stalling drivng down the road 99% of the time its a crank sensor, they rarely set a code either.

The issue is the car starts, runs smooth for 5 to 10 seconds then dies flat. Fuel pressure fall off once the engine builds to proper vacuum level. When the fuel system is primed once it runs to 46 psi +/-. I'm thinking fuel pressure regulator but this girl can not afford for me to be wrong, I don't like to just throw parts at a car and hope that fixes the problem.

is this a n/a or supercharged engine? year, model, miles?

n/a the fpr likes to fail. it will start and stall with cold starts. a filthy dirty TB can also cause this. the fpr's are rather cheap, around 25 bucks.

SC'd before 2000 and it'll likely be the fuel pressure resistor.

    Scott...where's that pic?

pretty sure the n/a engine has a vac line to the fpr. if so pull it off see if the line smells like gas. if it does the fpr is bad for sure.

Depends.. if you have a code for it.. you likely have a vacuum leak.

not likely. that would throw a code at least.

you can test that if you like, via smoke test and adding power to it to see if it opens and closes.

There are no ecm codes right now. I will go with the FPR and see where that takes me. Thank you for the help.

id clean the TB too. it can also cause it to stall or run rough. be sure to remove the maf first, as you know im sure anything but maf cleaner hits the maf its as good as dead.

Yup, this is the N/A model. Does it have a fuel pump resistor? If so I have read a couple of ways to diagnose it. It seems the symptoms are EXACTLY what I am having when others have detected a faulty resistor.
