Nope only a few of completed it. You need a rare tranny and fab skills. Sven built one and there's a couple other guys on here That have been popping up. I think ginseng has the actual rare tranny for sale

Not just ultra rare tranny made of unobtainium (yes there's one for sale...contact Ginseng) but fab skills that are beyond the scope of understanding, plus a clutch that's going to cost you $500 and a $150 flywheel and pray the clutch hydraulics are all in good shape because they're becoming almost as difficult to source as the trans. Total swap takes about a week.

It would probably take me two weeks. Haha. But that's out of my price range, I can get a built trans for that price right? Wouldn't a built 4T65e be better anyway? Is the 4T65e HD only for s/c engines or would it help an n/a engine also?

Just call tep if you wanna build a trans. Tripleedgeperformance.com
Re: Mechanically inclined noob
Spoiler alert: you are on a tight budget and have minimal knowledge working on a car. A custom transmission is so far out of your price and knowledge range don't waste your time thinking about it. You bought the wrong car if you want a manual transmission.
For the coolant, just do what Scotty says and you'll be fine. When you are refilling the coolant, you can't instantly fill it full - it takes some time for the coolant to flow into the whole system. That is why you'll have to keep topping it off.

It's the same transmission with different gearing a apparently a better differential in the HD version.
Both are easily destroyed with either engine.

Well I feel confident enough to at least rebuild my transmission.

Well that sucks.
Re: Mechanically inclined noob
Before u upgrade anything. U should make sure everything is functioning properly. Always use good oil. Change at its proper intervals. New plugs and wires. I wouldn't worry about coils unless your having issues. Check air filter replace if needed. Also I would use some carb cleaner. Check for any bad vacuum lines. I would remove you air ideal assist valve and clean it and the bore hole out. Also a tranny flush and filter wouldn't hurt at them miles. As for coolant upgrade to me tel elbows and flush system and use green or yellow. Forget that red crap. Check your motor mounts. That's just some of the things I recommend you do to your care as some preventive maintenance.

One of my motor mounts is all the way broken. I have no idea how it even happened. :(
Re: Mechanically inclined noob
Need to get that fixed. It will cause ur cv axle get in a bind. Mine made a popping noise when I got on it. There are big blocks of rubber. They just wear out.

Really?? Your a noob to cars and you feel confident that you can rebuild the 4T65E? Usually people that do this kind of work have had some type of dealership training, or some other on-the-job training with skilled people, etc.

you also have lower engine and trans mounts that just wear out.

You were good up untill you said a flush, dont do flushes on transmissions that didn't have it at regularly done. You can drop the trans pan with a new filter and 8 quarts of fluid. Which should be done every 50k or less.

I didn't mean a flush flush. But yeah I wouldn't get it flushed. Filter and fluid for sure

^Glad I didn't have to say it. Again, I'm not trying to be a jerk but stick with the basics for now (that was the whole point of this thread). Fix what is broken and go from there.

I wasnt saying that was something I was doing soon. It's just something I believe I can do. That is if it doesn't require welding. Aren't there rebuild kits? What's the hardest part of rebuilding a transmission?
Re: Mechanically inclined noob
its the tools that cost the most. the re build kits are rather cheap really. the chance if fvcking up are good tho. theres a lot of parts, they all need to be there, and installed right, or it wont work.
some have done it, many others have failed. watch some vids, see if its something you really think you can take on.
i know i wont be.
