Sold my car to my nephew. Somehow still my problem lol. Here's the deal. Theres a whistling at the far drivers bolt of the three bolts at the front of the S/C on '98 model. I sprayed some carb cleaner (only thing handy) on it and the engine died. Needs new gasket right? Autozone doesnt have it and O'Reilly can order it but they have two options. 1/16 and 1/32 thickness. Which one? Also I changed the brake modulator pump box on it months ago and never bled the brakes as they were stiff and in working order. He took the calipers off because he "had" to paint them. He's got very little brakes now. We've tried all day to bleed them and diagnose the problem. Nothin. They pump to firmness. The moment the car starts its gone. Please help. The kid is driving me nuts

whats a brake modulator pump ? you mean the master cylinder? being a 98 if it was the master is the abs pump bolted to the master? and you took that apart?

all i know is the gen 3 takes a paper gasket, called a upper plenum gasket, they cost 11 to 12 bucks at the parts store, the 40 dollar one is for a gen 5 blower.

I've heard it called many things. Its a silver box that the lines from the master cylinder go to. And we tried to bleed the master cylinder as best we could. The little plastic cone things that came with the bleed kit arent worth a crap. It says he should have the abs pump scanned

is the abs light on? if so you'll need the abs pump re homed, or re learned, just went through this myself, cost 40 bucks at a local shop.

and you got two lines to the abs pump where 4 lines go off to the wheels right?

what you can do to bleed all that is to first bleed the master if it went dry, by pumping the brakes like you would to bleed a caliper, but your going to put a wrench on the line off the master then wrap a rag around the nut, after the brakes are pumped up, the pedal is held and you crack the line nut, pedal guy pushs the pedal to the floor, he holds it there till you make the nut tight again, then he can pump the pedal up again. if theres air you'll hear it. do each line 3 or 4 times till just fluid comes out.

then do the same for the 4 lines coming off the abs pump.

    then redo the wheel calipers.

dont let the master go dry while bleeding or you'll have to start all over again.

oh. try bleed the line nuts off the master yet? if not theres your issue.

i know you said the bleeder kit was a fail, not sure why???? you screw the end caps in put the clear lines on the ends, then the other end goes into the res tank of the master, ( thats full of new fluid) then you either push the brake pedal if its in the car, or bench bleed it by using a large Philips head screw driver to push the piston in on the master. you do this till no more bubble come out the clear tubes, then put the hard lines on. some times you need to bleed the lines once, but most of the time what little air is there will travel to the calipers and escape while bleeding.

that sounds like a sh-it kit. keep bleeding them lines off the master, sounds like you got air still trapped.

funny mine dont have threads, you cant bench bleed it if you wanted to. but they had a threaded bleeder kit included.

mine bolts to the abs pump, the abs pump has 2 bleeders on it. so thats how i had to do it. but i also used a home made one man bleeder kit that i used to bleed everything. cause i work alone so damn much. after having the abs pump re homed, i had to re bleed it all all over again.

That's what I suggested. The Master must have air in it. Bleed it

Always look to what was just done, he removed the calipers. Nothing else magically broke while he painted the calpers.

Master doesn't have air in it. You guys are missing the beauty of what happened. Kid took the calipers off, painted them and put them on the wrong sides. You can confirm this by noting if the bleeder is below the brake line connection. If that's the case, tell boy wonder to swap them onto the correct sides and rebleed. Some of us call that a "Swigglet".

On the SC whistling. Look at the bolts closely and smack him for starting to pull the charger. You know he was going to paint that too. The gasket is called an upper plenum gasket.
