So my wife has an 02 GT. Until last month it had been sitting for about 9-10 months. The battery was completely shot, bought a new one and the car started up flawlessly. However, I noticed the smell of oil burning. I opened the hood, and seen smoke coming from the front side of the motor (Front side of the car). I replaced the VC gasket thinking that it was probably in need. However, it still smokes. I cleaned it all up using engine degreaser. I thought it may just be burning off what was left. THat's not the case, it is still doing it after about a hundred miles. Does anyone have any thoughts. It has about 170k miles but has had regular oil changes and had the plugs and wires changed at about 150k along with the coolant elbows. I haven't noticed any coolant in the oil nor am I losing any either. Any help would be appreciated.

Did you get new valve cover grommets?

    Maybe a bad gasket aswell.

It's definitely oil due to the smell. I cleaned it very thoroughly while the VC was off. I didn't get new grommets, but the gasket was changed. Maybe I should've gotten them, thought they were good...maybe not.
