I was asked to come by from Autogeek by The Guz, so here I am. I bought this Y2K GTP a few weeks ago. I recently learned that my wheels aren't jaundiced, they are "gold package". I happily drove it a full week before the "Service Engine Soon" light came on. So, anyway, I'm just here to take care of it and hope it stays with me a while. It was suggested I first look into the lower intake manifold gasket. So, let's get started.

    Moar pics.

Since its the gold edition you should paint the front fascia and the rear fascia gold, I think it would look good. And omg those headlights, they look like mine when I got my car lol.

Glad you found your way over here. Do you have access to an OBD 2 scanner so we can figure out what code you are getting.

Here's a rundown of things to check

    1. LIM gaskets- A common symptom of the lower intake manifold gaskets is the car using coolant. Under the oil cap it will be a milky white substance from the oil and coolant mixing. The LIM's also leak around the edges.

    2. Coolant elbows - Give them a once over to see if they are not cracked or leaking.

    3. Transmission Filter & Fluid - I would recommend as routine maintenance to replace the transmission filter and fluid (depending on mileage of the car Dex III vs Dex VI). While doing that it is common to install a shift kit (transgo) to help the trans and give you quiker/smoother shifts.

    4. Oil change - I would put some fresh oil in this bad boy. I use a synthetic oil and a good filter.

    5. Suspension - A common issue is the front sway bar cracking by the endlinks. Speaking of endlinks Moog makes a nice set if yours look worn. Moog typically makes good replacement parts.

Items 1-4 are the first things my brother and I did on his when he bought his. If I forgot something hopefully someone chimes in.

You can always PM if you need anything.

Speaking of headlights you can get some TYC headlights cheap on rockauto. I do like the OEM corners as the reflector ties into the gold. But there are some clear corners. The DEPO one's are the ones to get on ebay if you want to change up the look a little.

I think he's referring to something like this for the front valence.

Looks like you bought it from a dealer... I would bring t back to the dealer, let them scan and fix any code issue prior to doing anything at all. Driving it a week and code setting is likely from the fact that the code was reset and once driven, reappeared!

So...my windshield broke this morning. There was a storm overnight, but I see no evidence that the storm caused the damage. I did not notice any hail, and there were no tree branches on or around the car. A series of cracks on the outer layer of the windshield fan out from the top center of the windshield where the rear view mirror is.

Last week I glued my rubber strip to the glass with 3M black weather strip adhesive. Could that have caused the glass to break? Seems unlikely, but I'm at a loss as to what caused the glass to crack up like that.

    A joke?

You do realize thats atleast 300-350 dollars in parts, plus their mark up on them. Most shops will buy SKF or moog parts because they don't want comebacks during a 12 month period. Then you need to add on book labor, so another 300-450 for that and your 2 tires. So 1000-1200 is not a bad deal.

If you step down to reality, someone is not getting ripped off, it's just how much stuff costs in the real world. Just because you can do stuff yourself doesnt mean you should call a shop a joke because thats how they make money and stay in business. Clealy you have never worked in the field either, I'm going on 3 years now...

Dang that sucks about the windshield. Perhaps there was already an existing stress crack. If you have a heads up display be sure to get the correct windshield for it.

Any update on the trouble code?

Seems there's not much agreement on whether the HUD windshield is necessary.

I don't know the trouble code. Where should I go to get my codes read?

(a fact about me, I've always had old cars and have never really worked on a car made after 1982. So, I'm a noob to modern cars in general)

They don't use moog they use whatever is cheepest from Oriellys, either masterpro or Dorman. I saw bbptech in there all the time when he worked for oriellys. And he always had the masterpro and Dorman boxes.

Autozone does it for free try there. A non hud windshield might not be as bright as a hud windshield and I think the price difference is only like 5 or 10 bucks.

I added a HUD into mine that didn't come with one and the HUD is a little blurry but still readable. I would just get the right one. Try the local autoparts store. You could pick up a cheap scanner at harbor freight. I think even pep boys carries a pocked scanner for about $50. Or you could look into the torque app and buy the OBD accessory.
