Hi all. I figured I’d introduce myself as well as talk about my journey to acquiring my 2004 Grand Prix GTP Comp G. Thank you in advance for taking the time to read all this.

My name is Joe and I’m 20 years old and currently going to college for tech related interests. I have the bare minimum know-how about cars, but I absolutely love my car and wish I was more mechanically inclined so I could mod my car myself. But hey, even though I don’t know much, I can always ask you guys if any problems arise, right?

Anyway, my first vehicle was a 2002 dodge Dakota V6 that I inherited from my dad (passed away from cancer). That thing was the slowest thing on the road and the fuel economy was terrible. While I did appreciate the functionality of being able to tow some junk here and there, I needed something that would save me some gas money and preferably go faster.

So, around October of 2012, I sold that for 4K to a family member and decided I would spend that money plus an additional thousand I had saved on my next car.
I went with an 02 Passat 1.8t that had 95k miles on it for just under 5K. The paint was in perfect condition (not a scratch) and had the perfect pep and fuel efficiency I was looking for. I thoroughly enjoyed that little Passat for a whopping 4 months until I rear ended someone and totaled the car. Now, don’t get the wrong idea. I was merging onto a highway with an SUV in front of me. The SUV stops and then starts to go for the merge. I take my foot off the brake, turn my head to check traffic, and right when I look back, the idiot driver has slammed on her brakes and it’s too late to stop. I literally TAPPED her bumper, but her bumper lined up perfectly with the plastic grill on my little Passat. It gave the engine (area with timing chain) a nice bump and the thing seized up and died. I was shocked that such a minor bump (less than 10mph impact) could cause so much damage! Her SUV had only a scratch on it lol.
So, insurance paid me 4.5K, which is awesome considering I had a 2K deductible and I began looking for another car.

Around February 2013, after scouring every online vehicle for sale within 100 miles, I finally found my precious prix. I didn’t even know what it was at the time. All I knew was that I found a very nice looking car that was listed for 5K and had only 86K on the clock. It was being sold from a VW dealership ironically and I was skeptical due to the price. The ad didn’t mention that it was a gtp, nor did it list any problems the vehicle had. I took that opportunity to Autocheck the car and sure enough, the car was in an accident at some point. I called them up and asked if it had ANY problems and they said it DIDN’T. So I took a trip to the dealership and test drove it. Of course, every warning light, except for the check engine light is on, but the car drove just fine. I told the dealer what I was told over the phone and that I wouldn’t consider buying the car unless they took an additional 1K off the price. To my surprise, they did and I left the dealer with my new Grand Prix!

The total cost came to just about $4400, taxes and tags included! As soon as I got back, I had my trusted mechanic check out the warning lights and any possible codes. As expected, the ABS module was toast and there was a slight misfire which he fixed for free (one of wires was shorting itself). I also realized that I had gotten my hands on a GTP Comp G!

I have had it for a year now and I absolutely love this car! I will list additional mods and expenses below.

Broken stuff and cost to fix: (All prices include installation cost if I couldn’t do it myself) (Don’t judge me lol)

ABS Module (used from ebay)- $750
HUD (wasn’t working when I bought the car and I didn’t realize it had one until I looked it up)- $0 ( Fixed myself thanks to a how-to on GPONA)
Water on floorboard- $12 (Thanks to How-to on here J)
Water Pump- $200
Rear window motor- $190
Coolant elbow exploded- $200
Transmission flush and new filter (regular maintenance) - $150
