Lately I've been wondering if it would be beneficial to install a power steering cooler on my 06 GP and happen to see 2 kits on rock auto under the listing for my car. It's Hayden part # 1009 and Four Seasons part #53019 but is it worth installing one of these? Does anyone use P/S coolers?

The car comes stock with a lazy excuse for a cooler, which should be enough for the most part. I'd say just change the fluid if you want to maintain your power steering system.

There is a stock ps cooler of sorts on the 3000GT/Stealths and I honestly don't see the whole point.

Nobody really talks about power steering temps, someone will have to dip their finger in the reservoir after a hot summer drive in the city lol.

Yea I figured just maintaining the fluid was gonna be good enough but I was thinking a cooler would extend the intervals for changing the fluid and possibly make the steering firmer due to the fluid being colder

If that's what you want just change it and add some lucas. Lucas is like honey, mine's a little stiffer now but I don't really see it as better in any way. I'd change it every time you change transmission fluid, 30-50k miles depending on your city/freeway driving ratio.

To be honest there's 1000 ways to mess up an oil change lol
But really no there isnt a way of messing it up unless you break the reservoir or something. It's possible if it's leaking, new fluid may leak more, thats what happened to mine but adding lucas stopped it.

wow, I completely forgot there is a small leak on my rack and need to do something about it and I didn't even think of Lucas and I love Lucas ****. The leak is at a weird spot. I'll take pics tomorrow and post. Maybe it's an easy fix

Lucas works on seal leaks in the p/s system. If it's from the lines, it probably won't help a bit.

There is a factory P/S cooler that comes on the Impala 9C1 cop cars but its part of the bracket assembly on the engine oil cooler if you want factory GM parts

I happened to see the stock "PS cooler" minute ago while lowering my subframe, and I legitimately laughed my ass off. It's just a long extension of the hard metal portion of the line that goes from the front passenger side of the subframe to the driver side and back. Literally just a huge chunk of the metal line positioned where air can hit it. Seems just like something GM would call a "cooler" :P

That's exactly right lol. I was in a bit of confusion as to what they were trying to accomplish, still not very much accomplished. I guess even a tiny section of cooling fins was out of the question

Yeah, that sounds similar to the ones on the 3000's. Rubber hose runs out toward the nose then it goes to hard line where it loops at the center front of the car and comes back to the reservoir. It's actually located in a good position to cool, I just don't know how effective it really is.

Intrigue had a loop that lays on the front of the subframe
Bonneville was similar to GP/Regal
Imp had the 91C police pack cooler that could be ordered
