Thread: wiring problem

Help somebody.
i have a serious wiring problem . there is a short somewhere and i can't find it. the battery is going down overnight. this is what i have tried so far. i dis-connected the fuze box, still didn't work, took every fuze out and every breaker out one at a time and still shorted. dis connected the alternator, still shorted. disconnected the starter,still there. disconnected the fuel pump stll did not help. changed the battery no help. the only thing left is the ignition to disconnect will do that tomorrow. anyone have any suggestions. i have run out of options. need some help.this is a 2000 grand prix with a 03 uni body on it. help me please!!!

Sometimes it's about getting down to the basics. Have you had the battery tested? In some cases, it's the battery itself not keeping the charge. Not trying to offend if you've already tested it

i put a new battery in it from a friend and still archs but thank you for the reply so much

only has a stock radio in it. changed out the battery to see it that was it. no help there. probably a stock radio would not run down avernight. i did unplug the radio and still had an arch at the battery. i just about ran out of what to look for

i know what you are saying. i put a test light between the battery and the post. whatever it is runs the battery down overnight. so something got to be hot somewhere with the car off. put a new battery in it. disconnected the alternator completely and still power . disconnected the main hot wire going to the fuze box and still hot. disconnected the starter and still hot. don't know what else to do. got any ideas?

i did all that. i am at my wits end with it. i even pulled the circuit breakers. its pulling a lot of power to run the battery down overnight with everything off. i really appreciate you shouting back at me though. don't know what else to try

i think you are right. i really appreciate what you have tried to help me with. i am going to take it to someone that knows more about it ihan i do. hopefully a good mechanic can figure it out. thanks for all the advice scottydogg. don

I know I am a little late here, did you get it figured out yet? Curious when you were pulling your fuses, did you also pull the fuses under the hood in the engine compartment? Your main system fuses and relays are there which could be the likely culprits that would kill a battery overnight.

I did pull the fuses and breakers that was just above the battery. i even dis- connected the fuse box under the hood there where the battery is. did not help. it is now at a friends garage. hopefully he can find the problem. may be there for a while as he also does insurance repairs. thanks for the shout back. all you guys out there are awsome for trying to help Don
