Hey guys, first post. Been lurking on here for about a month as I've decided I'm getting a 97-03 GTP for my next car. I was actually on my way to buy a 97 GTP a couple weeks ago when the guy calls to tell me he sold it....doesn't seem to be too many of these cars around my area either.

So there's this 2000 GTP down the road from me, it needs a motor swap and it's been sitting for about 4-5 years, but I went and checked out the body and it looks SPOTLESS as does the interior. It comes with a spare motor from a 97 SSEi but the guy doesn't know how many miles are on it, just says it ran when he pulled it out of the bonnie, so I'm thinking if I were to buy it I'd look for a motor elsewhere.

What do you guys think would be a fair price with the work that needs to be done? What else should I expect to be wrong after sitting for 5 years? Obviously I can't go test drive it so is it even worth the trouble or should I look elsewhere? I wouldn't even consider it if it weren't a black coupe (pretty much exactly what I want), and also local.

some other things I should mention: I'm not very mechanically inclined. I do have my dad who has a lot of experience and a few friends as well who are capable, but not the means to do the swap myself, so I would probably be paying a shop to do that for me.

    Maybe $1,000.

It'll need new fluids all around and it will need new brakes all around. Hopefully not calipers, but you'll have to see if the pistons compress back inside the caliper first.

that's about what I was thinking. It's probably a disaster waiting to happen (financially) but even so I'm still interested...as I said there aren't many in my area, especially a black coupe with no rust. If I could get the car and put it on the road for ~2500 I'd do it, but there's just so many unknowns

ugh gives me a headache to think about

There's another GTP I've had my eye on as well...it's a bit on the expensive side and it's a decent distance away, but it's got 120k and full carfax history, 1 owner with regular maintenance, only thing stopping me from buying it really is that it's the metallic teal color, which I'm not crazy about...

Maybe I'm being too picky but I really want one in black (or mulberry metallic if I could find one)

Well keep looking my good friend. Although that silver one doesn't sound bad? What year and what are they asking?
