Sheesh, how much pressure would I have to put on the engine to crack a piston? I'm not looking to race. mechanic at the dealership said the engine was set up nicely.

He said it was a 4-5k motor set up. Not sure I buy that though.

Had the car aligned and the brakes bled...she's feeling more and more like a new one. For 2k, I'm pleased.

The rust though.............anyone ever tried rustoleum rust restorer?

por will slow down rust, but a cutting wheel and welder will do better in the long run.

looking at a car and saying it looks set up well means jack sh it. (especially with the inter cooler in place of the bumper support, that needs to be fixed) the pcm needs to be scanned for KR, to much boost not the right timing and the pistons chip around the edges and your out a engine.

that areo force gauge reads KR, find the manual on line and learn how to use it. it will tell you your timing, KR, trans temps, fuel trims and so on. also reads check engine codes and clears them. its a great tool to have. use it.

I also have a hand held scan tool. They are excellent to have.

If the car is driven normally (not like a race car) can the pistons be chipped?

That is some basics, and fairly well written. How much boost does your gauge show? Its easy enough to chip pistons with the m90 on it. So the tune with your turbo setup will need to be spot on!

2 grand for a turbo GP? Some one either didn't know what they had, or you're one hell of a haggler! Lol clean car and great set up! Good score man, I'm jealous. But there is NO WAY a Taurus is faster than that GP.

is this car a gp? or a gtp originally? gp were n/a the gtp got the super charger, the turbo is all after market. what is easiest to put on a n/a engine so if your running the high compression n/a block 7 psi should be rather safe. a stock blower gtp only makes like 8 psi tops.

Yea, I found that out when I finally decided to "punch" it. The wife thought we were going to take off......

if its the low compression s/c block your not tuned to its full potential then. they can take quite a few more psi. or it was set low for the safe factor. who knows right?

see this is what we were saying about buying a modded car. you just dont know whats been done to it really. you really cant tell one block from the other either, from the outside anyway.

no it dont. take the plugs out, change them and the wires.

if any of the old plugs are damaged thats a chipped piston. after they chip, the car will sill run, but poorly. more chunks will come off and smash the spark plug. a compression test will tell a better story for sure.

its possible the seller knew it chipped a piston, turned the boost down and sold it. aka last legs scenario.

Yup you want zero knock......hopefully the pistons aren't chipped on you. But some fresh plugs/basic tune up will be a great idea. If any of the plugs look beat to poo. Then you have some more serious issues.

I'm going to pull it into the garage and pull the plugs. I have a compression test gauge as well. What should the compression read?

Is it just the standard engine oil for a turbo charger?

they should all read close to the same, you can test them dry, and then dump some oil in the cylinder for a wet test. most people i see get about 160 ish psi.

the wet test should net higher psi. if you find one thats a lot lower then the rest you may want to rent a scope to see the piston.

Yes the turbo feeds of the normal engine oil. Probably tapped at the filter housing.
