Is it safe to use other coolant than Dex-cool (i.e. the green "stuff")?

    Yes.

Do a full flush before switching. Dex and Green don't mix.

you can but the truth with the green sh!t is that it really isn't that great for aluminum parts. you can use other coolants like toyota's, ford's, and other brands. all the company's now run a 5 year coolant. it's basically dex-cool but different colors. toyota - pink, ford - yellow, honda - blue etc. the new dex-cool is fine just get all the old **** out and change your nylon LIM gaskets to aluminum.

    not stock, but after market.

i got a bad taste in my mouth from a blown head gasket on my 03 gmc with a 6.0, the aluminum heads and cast block is bad idea. 2 very different types of metal both with completely different heating and cool down times.
