That's true ^ I'm so used to N/A and the egr pipe problem. I also thought the coolant could pass into the intake in the LIM though.

Ran errands for 2 hours came back started right up ran smooth and drove great I was stumped so I replaced the coolant elbows and drive belt a lot of coolant sprayed on the belt and a lot of coolant leaked from the system so when I did the press test so maybe thats why I had so many problems I doubt it but maybe

Glad we could help, and I'm also glad to see people who really like the GP. Lots of people on here just have negative things to say about them (Heavy, bad handling, slow, rust out, etc) But they're opinions, I share some of them. They've usually just moved on and found something better for them.

Then there's the bad, Bill! He likes the w-body though, in the form of buicks and the bonneville.

You'd get rid of it over a head gasket?

    Weirdo.

i dont think Bill really thinks that about GP'S. hes a ball buster plain and simple. he likes his regal more then grand prix's. understandable cause the regal is more comfortable and low profile. ( not a cop magnet)

other then that they are the same car under the skin. he knows it lol

Yeah probably. It just comes down to opinion. The Regals are more low profile and I'd bet they're more comfortable, but I'd sacrifice that for the style the GP has and the overall image it has(sporty fun type cars). Whenever friends, family, etc ask what car I have, when I tell them it's a Grand Prix many say oh nice, or I used to have one, I wish I didn't sell it, or something positive. If I told them I got a buick park ave. (with the 3.8) I wouldn't get the same responses. That's just an example of the image they have, even though they are really all the same car underneath like you said.

buick has always been one step higher in the luxury dept. so it had better have better seats and such.

the list has always been from cheap to most expensive, Chevy Pontiac olds Buick and Cadillac. the further up the list the better the interior's were and still are.

Yea Well I actually was going to have the head gasket done by a buddy of mine that is ase but he compression tested it and said this car runs like a top I was never going to get rid of it even though every mechanic that looked at it told me get rid of it, but I literally left no stone unturned because I refused to lose this car but my buddy told me this thing is a cream puff has no rust at all low miles on a 3.8 unmolested, for handling she is great she sticks to the road braking for a car this size is phenomenal and acceleration for the age of the car and size is more than fine for me (although passing is where she really shines) I could honestly not say one bad thing about this car if I tried it's my first car but I also have two others a 92 civic and a 95 trans sport (I buy and sell on the side) and I work at a dealership and I have driven lexus's, beamers, and one corvette and still the grand prix in my mind is the perfect car not too big but not small pretty powerful looks good safe and decent on gas but I will admit before I found my grand prix I looked at a few ssei's, gs's, and park ave ultra's and I actually plan to sell my civic soon to get a ssei 99 of course because thats the best year for bonnie's just like 2000 in my eyes is the best gp's although I would miss the gas mileage of the civic the ssei's are amazing in every aspect( except not having heated seats for 99) but I would look past that and my trans sport although handles like a boat love that thing only thing gm did wrong was one kill pontiac for that reason never will own a new gm Unless we are talking a solstice bonnie gp or g8 gxp than I think everyone can agree on then terms

Soooo who wants to know what is wrong with this engine.....cause I do.

OP by testing compression and ruling that out, you confirmed my suspicions. The SC gasket or throttle body gasket is leaking. Both had the potential to push coolant into the intake. I'd usually say TB has the better chance, but at this point you have a good car, good motor and you should skip the head gaskets. Have your buddy do the lower intakes with the aluminums, SC gasket and new TB gasket (while you are at it.. use a can of TB cleaner to make it nice inside.

The difference you feel from it after that will amaze you.

02.. Bonneville is an H body and can't compared to a W body. PS.. GP is the late bloomer. 97-03 it only came with one heated seat, less comfort than a riding mower, a lego block boost gauge, never a strut tower bar and no fold down seat until 04.

I'm happy with the lack of Pontiac styling over the tickets and infractions that come with it.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Yeah the luxury line is always a few steps ahead of the others, but you pay for that when you buy retail. For some reason they loose value faster than the cars that aren't as advanced.

And yeah, the tickets/infractions that come with it lol. Should have been in the contract. I've never been pulled over yet in a year of driving, but I don't have fun too often and I don't drive a whole lot. Maybe it's a good thing, it keeps the cops looking in the right direction. Add a loud exhaust system on the 3800 and the cops won't look away.

short of a head gasket, the sc gasket and the tb gasket are the only 2 places to let coolant into the cylinders, so yeah, im with ya lol

the fact that it stops smoking says maybe once it warms up the gasket seals off, then stops leaking.
