Jumped the starter same thing wouldn't turn over. Just sparks and clicks
if your getting 12 volts at the end of the pos cable to the starter, its time to change it.
test it out of the car, go from there.
Starter is good that was the first thing I changed before the battery. With these chip keys would a error in the key cause this?
you got a power issue to the starter then. you need a ohm meter or some way to test your power at the starter.
could be a ignition harness too maybe.
the grounds are all on and tight on the tranny bell housing? 1 fat, 2 thin wires bolt there, make sure the wires are tight in the loop they used to put on the stud.
and the little wires are on the correct studs of the starter?
Can you explain why it tries to turn over after I crank it manually with a Breaker-Bar then locks up?
not a clue. thats very odd.
how hard is it to turn when you turn it with the crank bolt? is it hard to turn? or smooth feeling?
pretty smooth would the alternator keep it from cranking
it could if it dont spin freely, the a/c clutch can also keep it from turning if its fubared and locked up.
take the belts off spin all the pulleys by hand.
big ,do like scotty said take the belt/belts off,and plugs out if it doesnt turn freely then,
then you have either a weak starter or internal engine problems.i've seen starters work
off the engine and be weak enough to not turn engine.
ok will try on friday
Or just bite the bullet and get it inspected by a mechanic.
Out $40, or this headache?
Or replace the starter already.
