Re: Hey guys! RECALL WORK is not being done correctly.
Hold up before replacing the EGR. They don't fail all that often. What is the actual code? If it's insufficient flow, then that usually points to the map sensor, although it'll say "EGR insufficient flow". Map reads the change in pressure that is expected when the egr opens.

FYI, the recall involves removing the plastic guide for the front wires, and relocating them. The leaking valve cover is the root cause of the problem, and not part of the recall.
Funny how GM had to do a recall because people can't/won't maintain their vehicles.
Re: Hey guys! RECALL WORK is not being done correctly.
The valve cover gasket replacement only pertains to GTPs.
GTs get different front retainers for the spark plug wires.

Well there you go; my bad. Shows how much I care about GTP's. :th_biggrin2:
Re: Hey guys! RECALL WORK is not being done correctly.
GM wouldn't have done a recall because people didn't maintain their vehicles. They need to do a recall on the fuel gauge for 97-2003 GTP's!! I know of approximately 8 that are all broke & 1 bonneville's is broken. They're either stuck on full or empty. And yes, tried new dash clusters, fuel sending units, sensors & even a new fuel tank & pump, still not working correctly!! Thank God they put some technology in them & the driver info center will tell u how many gallons u have used!! Also, I've had to replace the heads up display in all mine. These things need to be recalled because just in my little GTP circle they've all had the same problems when we have to restore them. So I seriously doubt that GM would put out recalls, especially on a vehicle line that's been discontinued, over something based on poor owner maintenance. They're not so kind as to hand out millions in repairs if they don't have to!!
Anybody else had similar problems when restoring yours: HUD, fuel gauge, etc. ?

They didn't give me any codes. I asked them for a detailed report as to the codes & they said it's not throwing any codes, they diagnosed it a different way but the guy @ checkout is probably a retired volunteer or something because he had no clue what they did, couldn't look it up in the computer or anything bless his heart! He was just the last one there to hand u your keys & collect your John Hancock!! So I'm going to old faithful, my dear friend that gets stuck with all the doozies!!
Re: Hey guys! RECALL WORK is not being done correctly.
ok...well EGR will toss a code and most codes the first time they are tossed, won't kick on the light. Most codes take two consecutive fails to light up and 3 consecutive passes to turn the light off.
EGR runs many tests and it's actually a pretty smart thing based on it and the pcm. It'll know if it's valve isn't moving, isn't moving fully, seems stuck and if flow changes aren't detected when it's opened/closed. Downside is most people see a no flow when flow expected as an EGR and commonly it's a map sensor, that's how the system detects it.
Fuel level senders: this is common across almost all GM's of the 97-03 era. And before you believe that gallons used thing.. you may want to think about how it determines how much fuel is used. Does it rely on basic injector pulse data or level of sender?

Millions in recalls is better than billions in law suites. This is what society has created.....
On my GP GT, the fire recall is caused by a leaking v/c gasket. Every engine can have this happen. Fix the leak and you won't have a problem; I chose this route.
Ford had to put rear shoulder belts in the late model Bronco's because people were rolling the trucks while not wearing their seat belts. The passenger flies out, gets hurt, sues Ford and wins. Because of the passengers stupidity, Ford had to pay. WTF
McDonalds got sued because somebody ordered a hot cup of coffee and burned themselves. WTF
Gas can recall? This takes it to a whole 'nother level. Read this:
http://www.daystarweb.com/news/red_fuel_cans.html
http://www.daystarweb.com/Wall_Street_Journal.pdf
That gets WTF WTF
I am not saying that all recalls are frivolous, but quite a few are. MFG's have to be afraid of your (and mine) stupid legal system. We also live in a day and age where very few want to be accountable for their actions.
Now, back to work.
Re: Hey guys! RECALL WORK is not being done correctly.
The McDonald's lawsuit was warranted...
You should research it. It turns out that the coffee temp was CRANKED. The woman was hospitalized, had to get skin grafts, etc.
One time I was eating Arby's while driving, I managed to spill the entire bowl of a jus on my crotchal region.
At least people were in the car to spectate.
Re: Hey guys! RECALL WORK is not being done correctly.
I remember in Fargo a year or two ago, a local family was suing Walmart because the gas can they sold them didn't have a safety nozzle on it...
So when their 10 year old dumped gas on the bonfire, the can exploded and well...
The rest is history.
PS. Okay the article seemed legit, until they used it to attack Democrats. Lol Wtf?!?
Re: Hey guys! RECALL WORK is not being done correctly.
My personal favorites are one where a guy broke into a house to rob it. While robbing it, he broke his ankle. He sued the homeowner because he was injured on the homeowners property. Another one where on a commercial airline flight that was having issues with the landing gear. Flight crew told the passengers to prepare for a crash landing. At the last moment, the gear locked, and the plane landed safely. 2 passengers sued the airline for causing them "undue stress" because the plane didn't crash...

I know all about the case. Just because a judge says so, doesn't make it right. Maybe I am just old school, but if I order coffee, I expect it to be hot, and if I spill it, I know that hot stuff burns and there will be consequences. So, I go out of my way not to spill my hot cup of coffee.

He-he. I hate when that happens.

Nice that 100+ people have to loose their jobs because of the stupid actions of one person. Make that that actions of two people..... the judge needs to be held accountable for making such a stupid decision.

Um... How about the parents? Lol
