Hello,
I have two teenage sons with Grand Prix's, one has a 99 GT and the other has a 98 GTP. Needless to say, it seems like I'm working on one of them about every weekend! I've used this site many times to research problems, but I have never needed to post a question. So here goes my first...

My son with the 98 GTP called me and said he was stranded in a parking lot. He said he was at a stop light and when he gave it gas, the engine revved like normal but the car did not move. He said it was the first time that had happened, but the last couple weeks the car would periodically lunge once or twice while he was driving like it wasn't shifting properly, but then it would start running just fine again. He did not tell me earlier because he thought it had stopped.

I got to the parking lot about an hour later and I started the car and drove around the parking lot. There were no weird noises, grinding, etc. I stopped the car and put it in park. I waited a few minutes and when I put it back in drive, the car would not move again? I went back home and searched this site but did not find any threads with the exact same issue. About another hour later, I went back to the car and it did the exact same thing...drove around for a while but after I stopped and put it in park, it would not move again?

I bought this car about 2 years ago, so I don't know the tranny's history, but it has about 140k miles on it, and I know my son does not beat on it. I checked the tranny fluid and it was full, but it was a little more brown than red. Before I take the time to change the fluid, I wanted to see if the fluid could potentially be the problem, or if it sounds more severe than just the fluid?

Any suggestions would be appreciated!!!
