    Hello everyone,

I'm new to the forum and need some assistance with my 2002 GP, which I'm beginning to have problems with.

Before spending unnecessary money that I don't have and this being my most dependable ride, will someone give me some insight of what could be going on with my brakes (I'm guessing the brakes, brake booster or master cylinder), b/c when in the process of pressing the brakes and sometimes without pressing the brakes, it makes a weird sound as if it's releasing air/pressure and at times, it seems to push the pedal back upward on its own and sometimes it happens without me noticing any other effects.

    Your response is greatly appreciated.

    Bammmm,

Thanks for the reply. Also I wanted to make sure I'm explaining things correctly, so I took my car for a test drive to see if I could hear the noise again and it's not actually an air sound, but a motor type device that's turning/winding or something of that nature. As a matter of fact, the sound makes me think of driving on the edge of a highway that has the warning grooves when you get too close to the edge...? Again thanks and I'll have this checked out. If any other suggestions, just let me know.

Or maybe the ABS is kicking in.

I'd think it's your booster if it makes air sounds, because it uses engine vacuum. If the pedal comes up a little bit under higher than usual vacuum it may be normal, I've driven vehicles that do that. When you let off the gas vacuum in the engine is higher because the RPM's are still high yet the throttle position is at idle. Try hitting the brakes real quick with the engine running in park, and listen to the sound it makes. It should sound like it's sucking air from the inside of the car. Is it the same noise as what you're describing it does while driving?

    And, welcome

O2NavyBlue, Thanks for the reply. I did the brake test you ask and no, that's not the sound. That noise is usually the ABS pump, it sounds a bit like what you're describing. After starting the car, putting it in reverse or drive, and staying off the brake for at least 2 seconds, it should make the noise for about 1 second. That's just a test. Try that and see if its the same noise. If it is, it should only test, and get used when you're applying the brakes and a wheel locks up.
