I when to a mechanic today that has a really good rep. I asked him what he would charge me to install headers, install roller rockers, valve spring, retainers, gaskets, and a lower intake gasket. He quoted me 800 to 1000. Is that a good quote or is it high?

Figure in any other shop that would be atleast 1500-1800 bucks depending on labor costs and parts costs. And they would bill each job seperate, thus more money.

Which Gaskets would this be, Valve cover?
If the mechanic is already that deep into the motor, you might as well get the timing chain replaced and have head gaskets done at the same time.

The lower intake gasket is trashed and the valve cover gaskets and he said he wasnt gonna remove the heads todo the job or i would have him do the head gaskets i may have him tho jus bc of the mileage of the car

I would go ahead and replace them now so you don't have to worry about it later. He's only a few extra bolts away. It would cost you more to do it later, and you'd have to replace all the gaskets he's doing now all over again.

The price is a good deal. I wouldn't touch the head gaskets on a 3800 until I knew they were an issue.. which typically doesn't happen.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Well it wouldnt be too much more expensive to just have him do head gaskets bc he is there already so will just get them done. The car had original colant in it till i got it at 148k miles. I have flushed the car and still getting gunk in the rad. So i wil just do it and get it done and wont have to worry about it.
