Hello Everyone!
I am a definite noobie here!![]()
My name is Flip and I am from sunny South Florida. I just purchased a 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP (lol what does GTP stand for? I will google it!) about a month ago with 228,000 miles on it and I think I got a great deal for it. The miles are pretty high on it and I don't know anything about the previous owner/owners. I also, don't know what has been done to the car mechanically but I wish I did know because that would tell me more about the car.
It runs O.k. but it has some issues that I would like to address. There is no knocking noises, transmission shifts well, there was a overheating problem do to a bad water pump. Water was leaking from the weep hole on the water pump, I fixed that, changed the radiator cap, thermostat and its fine now from what I can see. I ran a scan on it and she has a few codes which are p0300 and p0441. It does misfire quite often especially when I give her a lot of gas "pedal to the metal". The idle is also rough, about 900 rpm at idle, the rpm gauge fluctuates too from 900 to 1000/1100 at idle (usually on start up it does this and then once warmed up it doesn't do as much). I had to take off the supercharger belt off because it really misfired bad with it on. I will put the belt back on once I get this misfiring issue fixed.
Well, that's all I have for now. I will be an active member of this great forum. I have learned a lot about my car from this forum so far! There is a lot of good info here about Grand Prixes. You are all great and keep up the good work and help!
Thanks
