Short circuit and Johnny 5 were exactly what i was thinking about when I posted the word input. I don't really have any questions at the moment. I have found loads of good information just browsing. I am thinking I may need to replace the ignition switch based on what I have read, but my problem isn't exactly what others have described. I will be replacing the fuel sending unit soon as the fuel gauge is, lets just use the word, goofy. I have considered such mods as flipping the front engine mounts but don't really see the point as I may occasionally pass someone on the highway but otherwise the car is driven like an 80 year old man drives his prized Cadillac. Ok so the only thing on the car that doesn't leak or seep one form of fluid or another is the brakes. I just came up with a question. Is it just mine or do all Grand Prix's act like the have been through a flood? I have come to the conclusion that the car is reliable but every electronic on it can not be trusted from day to day. Maybe mine has been flooded although other than the electronics i can find no evidence of such. Well thanks for reading.

Your car's 14 years old. You might encounter a little oxidation here and there.

I understand that, but its not quite 14 years old. I wont tell her you said she was 14. I did have a 88 olds delta 88 a few years ago with 250,+++ miles on it. It ran like a champ and everything on it (electronic) worked as intended. The windows may have been a bit slow rolling up and down and I cleaned the battery terminals once. I also had to reattach a vacuum line for the cruise to work. I guess they just make things cheaper and cheaper and charge more and more for the parts that are designed by engineers to fail so that people will buy new cars every year or five. Yeah I miss that car... i didn't care if people said it looked like a granny ride. $800.00 for a car that never left me stranded and needed next to no repairs was the reason I decided on purchasing this Grand Prix with the 3.8 engine. Are the ignition switches going bad due to condensation? And if so why not just clean them and throw some dielectric grease on the connections?

Alright, now that I feel like a complete doink I realize the problem would be in the switch itself and not in the connections on the other side of the harness. When you said oxidation my brain immediately thought of a corroded battery terminal and the magic that cleaning it brings. I was hoping for the easy way out. Now after almost completely taking apart my steering column and putting it all back together again I am convinced it is the switch and will be ordering one. Are any brands more reliable than others? And you just had to mention that o word. The ground effects on the drivers side of my car all but fell off a few days ago so there is another project for me. The rocker panel is almost completely non existent. That plus a sending unit and maybe a strut and I will just drive the car till it falls apart.

Oh man, I'm sorry to misfire your synapses. But now you know what the inside of the whole column looks like, so I hoped you learned some things in there. Can't help you on brand, though. Rocker panels tend to droop with age. Even mine droop a tad, and I'm even a different body style.
