Just hit 100,000 miles on my 2003 GTP. Car is clean and running good. Plan on replacing the coils, plugs, and wires. What else preventative maintenance should I be looking for to keep my baby on the road for a few more years?

    leave the coils along.

full tune up, plugs wires oil change and filter. the fuel filter. im sure your due for motor mounts if they are factory still.

you can service the tranny too, drop the pan, change the filter. ( DO NOT HAVE IT FLUSHED!! that can kill your tranny)

put aftermarket mounts in at 70,000. Oil pan in looking rusty, all this Michigan salt is hurting me. Just changed the oil with mobile 1 synthetic and put a K&N oil filter on. Cleaned and oiled up my K&N cai. For plugs, I put in oem iridium plugs around 70,000. Checked those out and 1 had rusted out and was causing misfires. mechanic said i should have melted my cats( if i still had cats...)
What plugs are best for GTP's with tunes?

iridium or copper plugs work best. do not use platinum plugs, your car will hate them.

and you have one cat still. cant see a misfire melting a cat, thats a new one by me.

Also. Look at your struts, sway bar, and control arm.

They recommend replacing struts like every 50k (total bs lol)

But the bushings on the sway bar and control arm. Make sure those look good.

What do u mean flushing can kill the tranny? The reason I ask is because I'm changing mines today and planned on flushing all the old fluid out because its burnt.

if you have burnt brown fluid, a flush will kill your tranny. like it wont leave the shop dead.

you should only drop the pan, and change the filter. thats is, then top off with 8 qts of new fluid.

if the shop is any good they wont do the flush to your car when you have hi miles or bad looking fluid, they will make you sign a waver if they do flush it. if they feel the fluid is old or burnt up.

New to the forum here and was wondering if anyone can advise why my tranny is slipping at wot from 2-3 gear. In first it shutters sometimes at WOT (1-2) at cool temps but when warmed up it will slip if I get on it, only from 2-3. If I drive normal it will go in every gear smoothly; Except on a hot day when I'm sitting in traffic then it will start jumping in every gear until I shut it off for a while. Also my transmission fluid is burnt(Brown in color) and its only been 15000 miles since I changed it. I've already added 2 bottles of Lucas during the 15k miles(to help with slippage) and its already burnt. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Oh yeah and when I bought the car it had 140k miles. It now has 155k(I posted this in another thread. What do u guys think?)

its dead. brown fluid means the clutches are cooked up. time for a rebuild.

Nooo! So is it even worth me changing the fluid? Will that help the tranny at all? I mean make it last longer?

if you changed the fluid 15,000 miles ago, and added not 1 but 2 qts of lucas, its time has come to a end. i'd think another pan drop would just be wasted money at this point.

no one ever wants to hear they are gonna need another trans, ( sorry BTW) i didnt want to believe it either when i lost 3 rd gear in mine either.

start babying it, and save up for a used trans or a rebuild.

Ok thanks for the advice. Would you recommend a rebuild or should I search for a used one. I have about 700 saved up right now so I'm prepared for the worst. Just don't trust junkyard trannys.Dont really know what you're getting...

rebuilds gonna cost more the 700.

you can search Craigs list for part outs, sometimes they are still in the car and can be tested at least. other times you need to trust them. ( hard i know)

used tranny runs around 400, ( more or less) a install at a shop runs 4 to 500 easy with fluids and filter for the trans. unless you can swap it yourself, then you'll save the install money.

Well my cousin is a backyard mechanic and he knows all about installing trannys. No joke he has a 98 Buick regal and replaced his transmission no less than 5 times within the past 3 years. He says he will charge me 250 to switch them out. He gets mad when we race because I always beat him in my 99 GT. His excuse is I got the torqy 3.29s lol

you maybe able to work within that 700 you got then. time to shop around for a good used tranny now.

hes got problems if your beating him with a n/a motor vs a sc regal.

No we're both n/a. Forgot to mention he has ls model. Trust me I know what the gs can do. I raced one that looked all beat up and he still pulled away easily. And ill be looking into some good used trannys as well.
