I bought my first gtp with 160k for 1400. Neededma few things but never had any real issues with it. If you search there is a list of known things to look for when buying one

2x, I'm kicking myself in the butt for not saving a few hundred more I needed for the GTP, however I am still happy with my GT.

rust is the biggest issue to look out for. Check in the trunk at the strut towers and the rocker panels on the sides of the cars.
    98 GTP modded 1.9's, sd headers, 3.4", zzp 1.0 230K miles scrapped.
04 Comp G zzp stb's, UMI ta's, Speedbuilt sways, bully flo heads, XP, zzp headers, fsic, thrasher shift kit, 60#, 2.6" corsa 2.5", Inferno hood
01 gt z7 turbo tep trans zzp motor
    08 g8 gt cam exhaust 11.87@118

Keep in mind you'll need to run premium gas on a GTP, which is not true with the GT...extra costs some don't think about. Not a huge deal, but if you're REALLY on a tight budget, that's something to keep in mind.

With these cars, maintenance is the key. A properly maintained 3800 series engine will run darn near forever. Just make sure the body will last as long as the engine by checking for rust where dsmuts mentioned.

I usually like people checking cars out with me lol. I just need to find a seller that will negotiate on price. What sucks is I'm in Mi so cars rust fast here
