Bummer about the deal. I am familiar with the valley and I believe they are an auction dealer. It might be worth a shot to find out who the previous owner was to find out what was going on. If the dealer gives you the run around I would ask about a warrantee...I would never be lucky enough to change the fluid/filter and have the problem solved.
    Good luck!

Have you looked into the gear selector cable? Maybe its loose? I had that issue on my 91 I tightened the cable on the trans end and didn't have that issue again. It would only take about 10-15 mins to check and you can do it yourself if you know what your looking for.

Oh and welcome to the site. I'm an expert in the engine side of grand prixs, as well as I am ASE certified, so if you ever have a question feel free to throw me a message.

Hey guys. Got my transmission fluid, filter and gasket changed and there was nothing wrong with it. Looked great inside. Only a few metal pieces. But was told its common. Glad nothing was wrong with it. I'm wondering if the whole not moving when in gear thing was just because it was cold cause it hasn't done it for over 2 months and its getting warmer out. So its just possible that it was too cold.

If thats not it and the trans isn't fried i'd check your tans linkage. It might be loose and just not selecting a gear.

I'll check it out but it hasn't been doing it at all for the past 2 months. Which is awesome. It runs a lot smoother than it did too. shifts easier and accelerates a lot better.

I'm glad to hear that. It's always a nice feeling to get your car back to tip top shape. I just bought my first car which is a 99 Grand Prix GTP and I plan to just do all the general maintnence stuff. Spark plugs, wires, oil, oil filter, fuel filter etc.

Oil and filter, spark plugs, serpentine belt, air filter, plug wires...that at least gives a pretty good baseline to start from...of course there will be other things needed as well...specially if your GP is 15 years old like mine lol

what he said. ^^^^^ full tune up and fluids and filters, as you have no records right now, time to make some of your own.

i re set my trip at every oil change, when i hit 3000 miles i change it again. i leave the trip up all the time. dont trust the oil life thing, it will let you go 5,000 miles easy. and thats to long really. i use what ever oil is on sale. ( last oil change was 21 bucks with a filter on sale at pep boys) oil is oil in my book. unless you want to pay $50 for synthetic oil. not me.

Thanks. I so far have to do plugs and wires and the belt. Now that the transmission fluid and all that I don't have to worry about it for about 100,000 miles. And got the air filter and oil and filter. Weird thing wheni changed my air filter there was a cigarette butt in there. Cool. Lol. Next step is window tints and my stickers on my car. Waiting though for it to get warmer cause its like 20-30° right now. Sucks.

I sure will. I'll be getting 40% tints. Lifetime warranty I believe. For about 340. Id have to double check on the warranty and price. When it become 50-60° I'll do it then.

Yeah Madtown, I went 35 all round and it is Meh OK, but I could have easily dropped more and never have problems. I don't know how the cops are there. I grew up round GB, don't miss it.
