Hi, i am new to the site and i just wanted to get some input on some issues i am having with a 99 gtp i just bought yesterday. First off the temp guage will only move off rock bottom when i let it sit there and idle and then it will start to blow heat out, i can tell the blower motor is getting ready to go because its making a lot of noise. But as soon as i start driving the temp guage drops all the down to below the 160 degree line. Also the stock boost "guage" only goes about 3/4 of the way up with my foot on the floor and it seems to be stuttering when im on it all the way. Only mods done are a 3.5 in pully, headers, and down pipe. I appreciate any help anyone can give me with this. Thanks in advance, Dakoda

Have you cleaned your throttle body lately and also check for vacuum leaks..easy way to find them is spray carb cleaner around the vacuum lines while the cars started and if you here it started you have a leak when was the last time you flushed your system sounds like air bubbles in the line.

i just bought the car a day ago.. and its completely full on antifreeze and i have burped the system not flushed it though... it runs perfectly fine at idle it only does the stuttering when its under boost. ill check the vaccum lines but they all look good. by the way the car only hs 85000 miles on it if that matters

Dak, start off with changing out the thermostat. It sounds like it's missing or stuck open.

Then see how things behave. You might be getting odd behavior based on the temps and pcm tables being commanded. Doubtful, but start there and let's get it fixed up for you.

Ok, i replaced the thermostat and that resolved the heat issue and i also found that some of the vacuum lines are messed up ill post pics if i can figure it out... also is it true that the plastic engine covers cause fires? i heard that from someone... and my traction control light is always lit up saying its off if anyone knows what that might be id appreciate it

No, the covers don't cause issues.

The main issue was the heat shield over the front exhaust manifold would collect oil and condense it from the leaking valve cover. At some point, it could ignite. A little funny to me as a previous Bonneville owner, we wondered why they left the bigger cars with the same motor out of the recall. The only difference was...that heat shield. Although the recalls replaced the front gasket, then removed the wire holder (above the gasket surface), and finally removed the heat shield.
