Father-in-law now legally blind. Has given up drivers license.
He is the original owner of a 95 Grand Prix factory official car, purchased with 1100 miles on it...loaded....but with the infamous 3100 V6.

Has 102,000 miles and is just beginning to ooze coolant d/t intake manifold leakage. Oil pristine and so-far untouched by coolant. He wants to have my mechanic fix this (+/- $500) so he can offer his last beloved car to my daughter's boyfriend (college student in need of a daily driver here in mid-michigan).

No other known issues...always had oil change every 3-4000 miles......brakes/battery nearly new.

Edmunds.com and NADA put the value at $1000-1200 and I believe he's only going to ask ~$1000 because he wants a family member to own it.

Any opinions from forum members on the likelihood of known issues popping up in the next couple of years/12,000 total miles driven.

Appreciate your input as I am in the middle of this. Lol.

After those gaskets are fixed, thats pretty much the only major thing that can kill the car.

Otherwise its just normal maintence from there, oil, tires etc etc. You said the brakes were already done so its good there. So for 1000-1500 bucks its a good daily driver.

It's a good body style, apart from the door handles. I always liked those cars in high school, even though everyone had one. 3100's aren't that bad, especially since it's been maintained. You may have to start worrying about sensors soon with the mileage, but that's all routine, and more his problem than yours. For the price it'd be a good deal, provided that you actually like your daughter's boyfriend.

Yes. I like him. lol. That's why I would have him invest $1100 in this car (known history) vs an auto off Craig's list. Let's face it, cars for under $4000 are going to be a riskier purchase. Just want to be sure he's as informed as possible.

Any list(s) out there of sensors that are likely to go/ability to service them?

Thanks again for the opinions received.

where are you located? Parts are easy to get for these cars. It's a good car to start to learn how to fix it yourself and save money. I learn on a 3100 in my 94 cutlass S.

We are in Lansing, MI......where most of these were made.
Won't need body parts....just PM and expendables.
I work on my own Miata MX5 2001, and will be doing some front end work on my 04 GMC Sierra 1500 this spring (steering getting a little loose).
As the Miata website has references posted for maintenance...I was wondering if u could direct me to similar section here for sensors (O2, front hub?,?????)
Would help me decide on this 95 as BF is not mechanically inclined.

I have a 95 and so does my gf. You simply cannot kill them. The guys at W-body.com are super nice and help anyone. Only issues are the rear brakes are a pita to get to ride smooth. Lots of grease.
