I am buying my own brake pads for the first time. Are they universal or do I need a certain size brake pad for my 01 GP GT? I am doing the front and the back. Sorry for my noobish, I used to work on computers my whole life, just entered the car world a year ago.

What pads do you guys suggest? I don't want expensive ones, but I do not want cheap ones ether.

Each car has pads that go for them.

Walk into napa or wherever and tell them your car and they can get you what you need.

I would stay away from the cheapest pads as they will dust and make lots of noise.

Napa sells there premium pads at a good price, its what we use at the shop I work at.

Welcome and another vote for NAPA pads. If your rotors look a little ragged they have good discs as well.

Not sayin this is the must do, but have your rotors checked to see if they are within spec and have them turned or replaced. Also use caliper grease on the slides and caliper bolts. Also not saying you have to do this, but use disc brake quiet on the back of the pads.

Thanks everyone TexasTanker, I am having a friend put them in, I'll tell him, I am buying the pads though.

They sell NAPA brake pads at auto zone or advance auto parts?

    And Napa only.

You worked with puters right? I'd suggest checking out a few ytube vids on doing the job, to get familiar with what your buddy is going to do and what you should expect him to do.

Do some searching on various sites etc and read reviews about pads etc.

I'll give the Napa premium stuff another big thumb up as well. It's not cheap, but damn it's good.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

I'm gonna go against the grain here. I say you hit RockAuto online and get your stuff way cheaper (or better stuff for the same price), unless the job has to be done TODAY.
Irridium spark plugs last 100k mi and work just as well as copper. Copper is a waste on N/A and only lasts 15k mi. Don't use Platinum.
Use 195* tstat unless you can thoroughly explain why not; 99.9% don't need a lower temp.

My original stock brake pads are still in use after 85K Km's so I'm thinking of just going with those when the time comes to replacing them. My guess is they are Delco?

If ur stock ones leave a lot of brake dust on things like my stock ones were u could upgrade for a few extra dollars. Napa has good premium pads at a good price is recommended

I have only one NAPA store by me and it is 10 miles away. I will just go to a auto part store and buy some decent brake pads. I would not mine NAPA though, might be worth the drive.

10 miles is nothing to drive for good parts. hell when my local store is out of stock, the nearest store is 8 or 10 miles away, made that trip more times then i can count at this point.

Maybe this is a little off topic, but every time this thread title comes up, I wind up singing Like A Virgin in my head. Have a nice day, kids.

What makes NAPA so much better then other brake pads? If it worth it, I drive the 10 miles.
