You will need a 98-02 GTP PCM

The 97 GTP PCM is different

Why would you want to swap engines?

If you have the money but with a turbo you will destroy the stock transmission

You could top swap it that would be easier IMO rather then going though the hassle of swapping engines

Idk I think it depends on how mechanically inclined he is and if he has someone close to him to help him tune the car.

The 97 trans wont work in the 02, the valve body is different and the cooler lines are different as well. The cooler lines are easy to fix but the valve body idk.

Shift kits are cheap and easy, trust me its not worth your time to swap the transmissions because of the shift kit

You have a few days of reading ahead of you.

You need to understand that a GT and GTP arent so much alike.

Sure the motors and trans carry the same name, but each are alot different.

GT is 9.4:1 compression and GTP is 8.5:1, GT trans has 3.29 gears, GTP has 2.93's. Both have the same strength, both will die with enough power.

97 GTP PCM is year only and MUST have the wire harness to use it in another car.

You'd be better off top swapping the GT, instead of swapping motor. Whatever you decide on will need a full on custom tune to make anything work.

Thats what sucks about having a 97 car, everything is different, trans, pcm, blower, abs, hub bearings, DIC. Its the bastard child of the Grand Prix world. Why everyone says if your looking for a GP go 98-02 because 03's have a some one off parts as well.
