Welcome. Please tell us more about this "performance chip". Six-speed swaps have been done before, both auto and manual, but it wouldn't be worth it until you got some powah!

What benefit are you trying to achieve by going to a 5 or 6 speed automatic?

And I would love to hear more about this performance chip as well

The GF performance chip reprograms your air/fuel ratio, ignition timing and other aspects to safely increase the power, while increaing fuel economy the chip is designed to make your car run smoother and cooler at the same time. check out website.gfchips.com and as for the tranny i want a 5 or 6 speed because i was looking into dropping a v8 into it. like i said i am a noob to the whole modding a car so whatever you guys could help out with without looking down on me too much would be great

First off, remove the chip before you cause any damage to the car.

Then read this thread about how to SAFELY mod your 3800: http://www.grandprixforums.net/safel...0-a-67580.html

What V8 engine were you planning on going with? That would help determine the proper trans for the setup you had in mind.

Most GM automatic gearboxes are going to be 4 speeds. You only need 3 gears to get down a 1/4 mile.

As a matter of fact, off hand, I can't think of a GM with an automatic gearbox that has a 5 speed. Most cars with 6 speeds are cruisers anyway.

As far as dropping in an LSx, there will be A LOT of custom fabrication involved. I think the last person to RWD swap a GP spent 20k. There really isn't a reason it can't be done, but the time and cost involved would be more than the car is worth, especailly when you can get a good turbo setup and run 10s and 11s all day long for a fraction of the cost.

    So lets sum this up.

    "Performance Chip", dangerous garbage.
    V8 swap, not worth it.
Six-speed swap, you do not have enough invested in your car yet.

Chips are junk, a pcm from a vendor or tuning software are the way to go.
V8 swap, probably not worth it. If you wanted to go V8 I suppose a GXP swap wouldn't be the worst thing to do, but that's an LS4, and front wheel drive.
You can do a getrag manual swap. Do a search for Kuntzie, his install went smooth.
