Hi everyone! I have a pretty long history with the 3800 motor... And by that I mean I drove a 91 Buick LeSabre well over 400k miles... I've also owned far too many Trans Ams... And when that comes together with being young in a GM house, you get a fan... The problem is, as I got older I outgrew the whole T/A thing and needed a grown up car...

Now this is only a problem for people that look grown up, but are still punk kids behind the wheel... I still want to be fast... Combine that with never wanting to be on the cover of Me Too! magazine, and the GTP becomes the perfect car... I even bought one like 5 years ago... But there was a warranty problem, and dismal incompetence at the dealer that culminated with one of them muttering something racist at my wife... Yeah I didn't keep that one...

But I have been showing her classifieds for years since, and she always said if I wanted one I could get one... I put it off and off until finally one turned up at a lot I had already used the year before... Little place here in greater atl... True rescue car... Headed for the boneyard if I didn't get it...

It's scraped, and dented, and smelly and high miles... The trans was the worst i've ever seen in any car ever! Splines scraped clean, pin walked out of the diff, graphite everywhere... But really any one of these cars will need tranny work, and the HUD still works so i'm ahead of most of the vette guys I know... Besides, finding a 2 door with the supercharger and no sunroof isn't easy in the south... Need the headroom see

Anyway, GM kid to GM guy... New to trying to actually work on or make power with these motors, so i'll be asking alot of questions... I'll post a few pics of ol' Project Ill Advised Purchase in a bit... Get some opinions... You guys can tell me if I got a bad deal... Thanks for the patience!

    Welcome to the community.

I too am a long time Pontiac fan. Ive ventured away a couple times but every time I did I would just stare at Pontiacs as they drove buy and feel like I had committed adultery or something. My very first car was a F-Body style Firebird and I was in hog heaven with that thing. I literally cried when someone in front of me stopped short and made my Firebird a sub compact.

This is my second Grand Prix and Im in the middle of rebuilding the tranny and working over the engine some too. Im looking forward to seeing you around. I cant see any car purchase being a bad deal if you know it needs work and are willing to see it through. I'll be looking forward to the pics.

Ok here's a few pictures we took right after I got it... It needed a tranny rebuild, and a plug and wire tune up to be back to a daily driver... Well, and I never did fix the leak in the gas tank neck... But i'll get there

Oh... That's my Buick next to it... 250k on it and it still tries to lull me to sleep on road trips...

Yep... Roadmaster behind it is my other little car the wife won't go near... I love that thing too... They aren't kidding with the name of that car... I use it for long out of state runs... But the blue on the GTP was a happy accident... It always was my home base color for pontiacs, and I always kind of hoped... Funny thing is I got the GTP from the same guy that found me the Roadmaster... Paid the same for both cars too... But things are about to take off for every car project I have to do because we are about to close on a new house!! Garage for me!!! Yes!!! Which reminds me... I gotta hot the soapbox...
