I got a 2003 Pontiac Bonneville SLE with 60k miles on it. Hope you don't mind an H-body guy joining you here. As you know it's an L36 car. I'm a little stumped at this point. I want to make more power, and I understand that there are two ways to go with this. (I've ruled out Turbos, don't want to put THAT much money into this car.) I can either top swap, and run a 3.8 or 4.0 inch pulley with headers for safety and reliability.. Or mod NA. So ER rockers, HV3, headers, etc. My biggest concern is reliability here. I'm not looking to make this into a track beast or anything. Just wanna try and get the 0-60 time into the 6 second range. My current mods are a Fenderwell Intake, ported lower intake manifold, and ported front exhaust manifold. She's running in tip top shape.

Thanks for any and all advice.

Thanks very much! It's a very informative thread. Although I do have one question. Will putting headers on my existing set up make me lose performance in the low end?

    Yes. Consider the following though.

Instead of blowing the tires off, they'll chirp and you'll go, and it'll keep pulling after 4500 instead of falling on its face.

Less tire slip is good. But what about normal every day drive ability? I don't wanna have to get into the throttle a lot just to move the car. I'd love to see fuel economy stay relatively the same. Thanks again for the warm welcome and answering my questions.

Shouldnt change that much. If you do opt for headers make sure they are of the small primary variety.

Alright thanks. I think my plan will be to go top swap. Providing I can source parts I can trust to be in working order. This car is my DD and needs to be reliable. I just want more oomph from the motor.

Based on parts I've been screwed over by: Buy ZZP reman stock heads or CNC ported heads.

Also buy a new balancer. ZZP has some nice options there as well.

Then hunt down a gen V with lim, valve covers, and the other brackets/pulleys.

Pickup a set of L67 injectors or LS3 injectors if you plan on staying on the stock pulley.

Though L67 injectors are going to be old, and gummed up by now. Might save future headache buying something newer.

If you plan on going any further might as well step up to ZR1 injectors or siemens deka 60s.

I doubt this car will ever see anything lower then a 3.6 pulley. If that even. For the sake of not grenading the transmission.
