Well I've always wanted a GTP especially for a DD. I've test driven two of them in the past and loved them, still have no idea why I never did buy one of them.

Anyway not new to the car scene.
I'm a pretty big nut for buying/selling cars mainly DD's for profit. I've only had one DD that was really super nice which was a 1995 Subaru SVX but needed gas mileage so went to a civic. I've had a few civics now for DD's - always a bit rough, bodywise anyway - and the one I've been driving I finally got tired of since it was completely rotted out although mechanically sound.

With moving 3 hours away soon to start my junior year of college at a different University i decided I wanted something a bit nicer than my 300k mile rustbox 95 civic. Finally bought my first 3.8 SC car, was looking at regals/rivieras as well but found this first.
Gave $3000 for it - 121k miles. Absolutely no mechanical problems, brand new tires, all new maintenance parts such as plugs/wires/window regulator&motor/struts/etc. Does have some interior issues I'm going to work on getting fixed, mainly just with typical crappy GM plastics.

Eventual plan after I sell my bike is to do the 3.4" pulley & supporting mods although its about already quick enough for me for a DD.

Anyway a couple of my previous 'project/fun cars'
92 Talon TSi AWD - bolt ons, stock motor/trans -around 350-400whp. never dynoed, self tuned - ran 12.7@107mph when around 300whp
92 Laser RS-T AWD - built - again never dynoed, around 400-420whp ran 11.7@123mph. Did a new build after blowing a headgasket and was probably around 500whp self-tuned but sold it.
99 Firebid Formula 6speed - Bought bone stock, did cam only build - dynoed 384whp but was more around 400whp due to tuning issues based on running 114mph in 1/4 mile and beating a couple 400-420whp f-bodies. Only ran 12.9 due to 3.08 gears in a v6 rear end in it.

Few pics of the other/old rides for those interested.

nope sold it to pay off all student loans at the time + fund my next college semester. Still have money leftover from it. I do regret selling it but its nice being debt free.

A cam only took the car from stock 275hp crank to 384 wheel hp?

I believe the whole blowing up DSMs then selling them part. That happens all the time.

More like 320-350hp crank stock lol. I also had supporting mods, SLP Loudmouth Catback / Pacesetter Longtubes / Pacesetter Y-Pipe / Manley Pushrods / Isky Cam & Springs / SLP Lid / Pro 50 shifter / Terminator Brake swap / ls7 clutch.

Haha its my biggest regret is getting rid of the silver talon. Was the first car I learned anything on and I loved it to death. I sold it out of frustration on a whim and I've never stopped regretting it. The kid I sold it to tore it up and sold it basically as a barely running shell and the guy who has it now I keep in contact with and ask him every month if he wants to sell it.

Never have blown up a DSM, worst I've done was the headgasket which I bought the car knowing the headgasket was going out. I've actually been pretty damn lucky with my DSM's and only had misc issues that were annoying but not major like broken motor mounts, stuck throttle cable. I did have my timing belt jump on the laser but I ended up being one of the .003% lucky few who didn't have any valve damage, just retimed and hit the road. I really miss the DSM world and will be back in it after college without a doubt. Just don't want to do it again until I'm out of college and I can do a serious build with an auto 1g.

For whatever reason, I was thinking it had an LT1. LS1 makes more sense.
