Hi folks. I've been the proud owner of a white 04 GTP since 2007, and late Saturday night (actually early Sunday morning) it was stolen right before my eyes. I stupidly left my keys in it for thirty seconds while getting a box from my brother's house. That was enough time for two criminals to seize the opportunity. One jumped out of an SUV and straight into my driver's seat, and the two cars sped away in a matter of seconds. Unfortunately, the police have not been very helpful at all. My car has a dented trunk - it wouldn't even latch closed, actually - a small tear in the driver's seat; tan leather seats; a blue scuff on the passenger side of the rear bumper, and a Ron Paul bumper sticker (not to make this about politics, it's an identifying item). The license plate number is EWJ 5079. Please respond to this post not only with any comments or suggestions you may have, but if you live somewhere in the area and happen to notice it, or if someone comes on here and tries to sell parts that you're suspicious about, give me a heads up please and I'll see whether I recognize it as being from my stolen car. Any help anyone can offer me will be much appreciated.

Check your local dealers/pawn shops that would accept vehicles. Check your local parts shops. Check autotrader for your type of vehicle. Check craigslist. You probably have already done this but its something. And im not going to bust your balls for leaving the keys in the car. You know what you did wrong so no reason to rub salt in the wound. I hope you can find your car in one piece man.

We just called OnStar. Unfortunately, our OnStar system is Analog and they could not track it.

What? I could have sworn 2004 had the updated Onstar. Dude your getting the freaking shaft. Have you been looking around to see if they tried selling it? And keep pestering the police. Keep calling every day hell ever 12 hours (the police station, not 911) and ask for an update.

U can't sell / pawn a car without its title. It's probably joy ridden and dumped somewhere.

A higher end car would be chopped and parted out

yeah, i've been checking craigslist and stuff. the police basically laugh at us when we call about it. from the beginning all they could do was talk down to me, blame me, tell me they didn't have resources to look for it, and threaten to steal the car themselves if it had anything illegal in it. total waste of time.

based on the "professional" way they stole it - plus the fact that it fits certain recent patterns of auto thefts in syracuse - i don't believe it was a joyride / dump situation. not that i could know for sure...

I'm in Buffalo and it's pretty much snatch and dump around the city.

So there is a rash of car thefts lately?

    I feel for you bro..

I couldn't imagine what I'd do if I lost my car and it wasn't trackable. I live in small-town Iowa (only about 2,000 people) and I'm always locking my car and keys in-hand. I don't know why, but I've made it a habit. At least this way, I'm not accidentally doing it in a larger city. But it could've happened to anybody - after all, you were only going in for a minute or so. Can't say I wouldn't have done the same thing.
