I have a 1999 Grand Prix GTP with an aftermarket oil pressure gauge. I want to get an oil pressure sensor so i can monitor the oil pressure with the gauge. All it has right now is the oil pressure switch. What kind of oil pressure sensor do I need to get?

the gauge comes with the sensor. it screws in place of the stock oil pressure sensor.

most auto parts store sell the kit for 50 or less. get a electrical one, not a mechanical pressure, thats the one with the plastic tubing.

if you bought the car like this, check the wire from the sensor to the gauge, it could have gotten burn or broke somehow, or the power is not hooked up.

the sensor is located by the oil filter.

I bought the car as is. I noticed it had an oil pressure gauge but it didn't read anything. So i did a little investigation and found out the guy who had it before me didn't even try to hook it up to a pressure sensor. I found where the pressure switch is and it looks like it hasn't been touched. Does anyone have any ideas where I can get a sensor for it?

From....the gauge's manufacturer Seriously..I'd see how much the part is vs a whole new gauge.

What I meant was I bought it as it is now from the guy before me. It wasn't from a dealer... unfortunately.

a dealer wouldn't fix that, its after market, the new gauge kit is the way to go. internet or parts store. you can get 2 and 3 gauge kits with mounts on the net.

You mean the sensor on the old gauge?

Is this an electric guage, if not..it's a fitting and a tube.

on the face of the gauge it should say who makes it. they try googling who makes it, see if you can buy just the sender unit for it.

any gauge you get will be accurate, more so than no gauge at all, at least you will learn where it should be cold, warm, and when your a quart low on oil too.
