    i own a 97 grand prix gt coupe 3.8 series 2 i just changed the starter on and new spark plugs and new battery but the car wont start still wont even crank. checked the starter its good and when i put the red battery cable it fried the bolt and melted the part of the battery where you skrew in the bolt. need help

    did you check all the grounds? Was there any symptoms before it had this problem?

    Need some clarity on this....what exactly and how exactly did this happen?

    03 GTP...Its got pulleys and stuff.

    ill check all the ground wires today and the terminal where you connect the battery and the wire melted when i connected it the car automatically tried to start without the key in the ignition

    do you have remote start? This happened to me when I was working on my brothers car. I had to suffocate the motor. After I stalled it though, everything works right.

    could you hear the starter gear sticking (like turning the key when your car is already started). Im betting the starter is wired wrong somehow.

    the starter is good and im thinking its the wiring that went bad somewhere just dont know where if anyone knows the help would be greatt!!!

    If you can take a pic of the wiring going to the starter maybe you got a wire on wrong or touching.

    It sounds like the postive lead is touching the soleniod wire or you hooked it to the wrong post.
    I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.
