Hello Pontiac people, great to be here.
I recently was given a Bronzemist beauty 01 SE 3.8 with 120k (m), by a co-worker. It has been well looked after mechanically although it will be in need of a little cosmetic TLC. It is 90% rust free, pretty good for a 10 year old Canadian car. This week I am going to get under it to see how things look. On intitial inspection, I am looking at rubber and possibly brakes for certification. What other things should I be on the lookout for that are common problem areas on this car? The price was right, I could not turn it down. I am generally a Ford guy, this car may replace my 218,000 mile 01 Focus that has been a fantastic car. I also have a '88 5L notch sitting in the garage.
    Thanks.

you should check all the strut mounts for bad rust. Also since it is a series II check for coolant leaks. The Lower Intake Manifold gasket likes to go out on the Series II 3.8

Good thing is Mike had all the manifold gaskets replaced less than 2 years ago, I'll be sure to check the strut mounts. How do the fuel and brake lines hold up on the rust belt cars?

um I live in MI and have never had a problem. Mine on my 97 GTP still look good.. You might wanna check for BAD rust on the underside RIGHT behind the ground effects that run under the doors. Like up in that frame rail. It tends to rust out BAD there.

Check your rocker panels beneath the doors for rust, check any suspension etc..

Kind of scared to see whats behind those peices. I did notice a pile of leaves and sand and crap laying in that little area the the bottom of the door jam behind the front wheels.
I also have the water leak onto the passenger floor from the heater box.

    Thanks lad,
I'm in the Ottawa valley about 45 minutes west of Ottawa. It was actually a freebie, not a purchase.
