So, the only way to replace a wheel sensor is by replacing a wheel hub?

Grand Prixs are easy as hell to work on. You just have to be willig to get your hands dirty. There are plenty of write ups that can walk you through just about anything. The wheel hub is simple as well not a big deal and takes only a few minutes when the wheel is removed.

My Foxbody is a tad bit easier to mess with.

    correct.

but check the wires and the plug connections before you just start buying new hubs, thats been a fix for a few of us. chafed wires, broken wires, cracks in the wires. that sort of thing.

I hope so because that is the main reason for the trade. I'm tired of paying 120+ a month just to drive to work everyday.

I'm torn now. When the offer was his car for my jeep, it was a no go. Now he has offered the car + $500 cash.

List of things that I noticed wrong
Key gets stuck - he has a replacement shifter just need to be installed.
    Wheel Sensor needs replacement
    Display on radio doesn't work
Rear passenger wheel mismatches the others. (From a newer Grand Prix)
Driver side tail light had condensation inside it

Some of those not a big deal... As far as the radio goes just get an after market one and solve that problem. As far as the tail lights that is a very common issue. Tires mismatching can be a cosmetic problem. But dont really see any major problem with that(unless the newer GP's use 17") Wheel sensor is not that bad. It would just be a couple of hours of work. The key problem, I really couldn't help you with that...

Tires were same size so, no issue there.

I'm just a little scared of receiving someone else's problem.

Better to be with the devil you know then one you don't.

    Thank you,

im guessing you were unable to test drive it at least? maybe take it to a shop for a inspection, see what they think, may be the best 50 to 100 bucks you spend, a little insurance.

My test drive was a couple minutes in a walmart parking lot.

I counter offered that we get both vehicles inspected and he could subtract the cost of the inspection from the $500 if we agreed to a trade at that time.

    Sound fair?

    Thank you,
    Scott

The key issue is NOT the shifter.

its the park lock solenoid in the steering collumn.

    rip it out.

    and you're problem free there.

Agreed on the devil you know bit as well has having them both inspected.

His reply, "Well that's an interesting offer and not a bad one. But I'm not sure I really want to do that. I think we both know what needs done on both vehicles but if we can't come to an agreement after the inspections then we're both out inspection money. Not to mention being a mechanic myself I have a healthy distrust for other mechanics sad to say. My offer of 500 still stands by the way, just think about it and let me know"

I think that seals the deal...he seems to be hiding an issue that he knows about.

Not sure if I should make one last offer of me paying for the Grand Prix's inspection and letting him know I will not trade my jeep without a neutral party inspection on the Grand Prix or just pass at this point.

    Thank you,
    Scott

Just leave it be. Its not worth your time to bother with him anymore.

I'd find a different car to look at if I was you.
