    Hi all,

First time Grand Prix owner and thought I would join the community and say hello. My previous ride was a 2004 Subaru WRX wagon. Great car but really wanted to get into an automatic. Traded my 2007 Yamaha V Star 1300 for a 2002 Grand Prix GTP and like it so far. The body on mine is in really good shape. The paint is still shiny. The interior needs some small trim pieces replaced and some new buttons as all the indicators are worn off mine. Car has little over 156,000 and doesn't really show signs of slowing down. I get 18ish driving in the city so I'm not too upset as that's about what the WRX got.

ABS light is on and I'm thinking the computer may be bad. Found a place on eBay that repairs them for $99 and warranties for life so may check into that. (Will also check the forums to see what others think if anyone has posted about them.)

The only real questions I would have are about the vacuum lines. The car lost all boost and threw Evap code and Bank 1 lean code. Looked under the hood and the small "T" vacuum line under the nose of the supercharger had come off. Replaced it and boost came back, etc BUT the "T" is in REALLY bad shape and crumbling. I'm pretty sure I'm leaking vac as I don't get full boost usually anymore. I don't know what to call that line to order one from Pontiac/Chevy/GMC......where do I get parts? LOL.

Transmission seems to shift ok. No slipping or weird noises.

Engine pulls clean. No smoke, oil is clear. Sounds like I may have a stuck lifter as I have a slight tapping noise. (gonna have it checked out.) Also going to replace the wires, plugs and fuel filter as they look old.

I'll take any tidbits of wisdom anyone has. Not sure of a local shop to use yet. I don't wrench much on my cars anymore as I'm a disabled Vet and the leaning kills my already bad back.

Anyway, nice to meet you all and I hope to learn a lot more about this car. I've always wanted one and now I have one. (It's a 2 door in a DARK blue by the way.)

I'll try to take some pics and post them but I'm sure you all know what it looks like.

Am I supposed to have a keyless entry? Guy just gave me one key. Seems like it should have a key fob.

    Thanks!

    Welcome.

A good place to start for parts is gmpartsdirect.com.

As for a shop, I recommend North Fulton Auto.

Norcross, GA to Oak St, Roswell, GA - Google Maps

May be a bit of a drive, but these guys are honest and decently priced, and my GP is there right now getting fixed.

Thank you! I'll check that out. Currently my GTP is at Zen Motors getting a checkup so I know where to start. They're going to compile a list for me so I know what needs to get replaced. I think I need to get my hands on an owner's manual so I can figure stuff out. I don't know if my car is keyless entry, I don't know why it dings when I hit the lock button and doesn't lock the doors until I hit it again, etc. Lots to figure out.

Well, I'm actually in Norcross. I avoid the city of Atlanta like the plague. Believe me, I've been looking at leaving for a while. I moved here because of my mom but she's in Dayton Beach Shores now. I visit her when I can. =)

If I could never go back, I wouldn't. Spent 27 years there, and back every other weekend. FML.

The lock thing is delayed for rear seat access. Push the button once and wait 5 seconds and it should lock. Its so you can push lock, close the door, grab a bag from the rear seat, close that door, and then have the car lock on its own.

Atlanta isn't that bad... but then again the only other city I know well enough to compare it to is Detroit...

Uh, yeah it is. I remember what it was like 35+ years ago. It sucks.

I have only known Atlanta since '07 and Detroit since the early 90's, so if you compare the two with this time frame then I'd be surprised if you disagree.

However I cannot remember anything about the city's pasts (I was not alive), so if you compare those then I have no basis for a personal appeal ( means you win by default).

    And to the OP:
    www.clubgp.com/97-02_GP_Parts_List.pdf

Its a pdf to help find part numbers. I know its from the other site, but its quite useful.

AH! That's pretty cool. It would be useful if mine was a 4 door. LOL. At least I know what it's doing now.

Thanks for the welcomes everyone. Zen Motors in Suwanee did a great job of giving the car a good once over for me. I need both front axles, motor mount, and a oil pan. Those are going to get done first if they ever send me a quote for it all. This weekend I'm changing the oil in the supercharger......but may wait as my coupler sounds a bit noisy so I may do that with everything else. First mods will probably be wires and coils. I'm looking at the MSD sets but I did see those 10.3mm on ZZP.

Car will be lightly modded for some time I would imagine. nothing too radical. I really like the way the car feels right now except for the spongy corners. (Looking at the KYB sets to take care of that maybe.) Overall, I really love the car so far. It gets the same gas mileage as my WRX wagon got and it's more roomy and more comfortable. (and I'm not shifting every 3 seconds in bumper-to-bumper traffic)

I'll take any pro-tips on mods, wires, coils, etc.

    Thanks all!

Read this, its got a lot of good info: http://www.grandprixforums.net/safel...car-17482.html

...and stay away from MSD coils. Stock ones seem to be more reliable and work better.

Thanks! That's exactly what I'm looking for. I wonder what's wrong with the MSD coils for our cars? I'll read through all of it before asking my usual barrage of questions!
